Blue kittens revisited

Marina - 12 Feb 2005 20:14 GMT I visited the blue kittens today. Took the camera along; there are eight new pics starting with this:
http://community.webshots.com/photo/231002479/272248671jhhceG
When I arrived they were sleeping, but gradually they woke up and came staggering into the living room. They're all very brave and came right up to check me out. Then they played non-stop for a couple of hours. Awww! Then one of them climbed up my leg, up to my shoulder and gnawed on the chain of my glasses (my senility cord, as my Mum nicely put it). Then she settled down in my arms and promptly fell asleep (I think it was the same one who hangs on to my niece's back in that first picture). She was so cute, I was really tempted to slip her into my pocket and bring her home. My niece said that she's the worst hoolikitten of them all, and she doesn't even respect big old Kasper.
Anyways, there's some trouble with their registration, and if they can't be registered Russian Blues, most of the homes my niece has lined up for them will fall through <shakes head at silliness of cat breeding>. So my sister's family is looking forward to having a household with seven cats. Not. Yes, I hear the clamour from rpca - adopt a couple of them! I'm not saying anything definite yet. I really want a tabby, but I guess you have to accept that you will get the cats the Mothership chooses to send you.

Thanks for sharing the pictures, Marina. (How you can resist taking one of those kittens home is amazing. If it were me, they'd have to pat me down at the door to make sure I wasn't smuggling kittens.) =o)

She's a very attentive mother and keeps a close watch on her babies. It was funny how, when the doorbell rang, she let out a loud GROWL, but then she just sat there looking a bit goofy. I think she thought her growl would be enough to scare away any intruder. You can see her in one of the pictures to the left, watching over the babies playing with the shoes.

I remember being astounded the first time I heard Sugar growl when they heard someone coming through a gate outside our then apartment. I've heard Grant do it too in this one if someone walks past the door in the hall. I'm not sure why it is sometimes growlable and sometimes not.

In all fairness, these guys have a very good pedigree as I recall, and the papers are necessary if the new owners have any plan to breed them. They are also helpful if the cat ever has to be rehomed. At best they won't bring as good a price without registration. I doubt homes will be any problem at all.

Shiral - 12 Feb 2005 21:21 GMT Hey, I really wanted a tabby too. The Mothership hooked me up with Francesca my lovely tabby girl, and I ended up with two for the price of one. =o) In the presence of so much adorableness, I think the danger would be great that I'd suddenly develop a lust for Russian Blues. If people can turn their backs on these sweet babies because of cat breeding rules, then they don't deserve to have them!

If people can turn their backs on these sweet babies because of > cat breeding rules, then they don't deserve to have them! I agree. They don't deserve them. I find myself thinking more and more about that little troublemaker who fell asleep on my arm. I think it was the same one (couldn't see the difference between them, except one girl that was much darker than the other ones) who nibbled on the chain of my glasses earlier, then started to groom my neck and hair. Awww! And here was I, thinking I want a boy tabby. I'm almost hoping now that they can't be registered. I feel Nikki looking daggers at me. :o/

Marina - 13 Feb 2005 04:28 GMT > Re wanting a tabby -- look closely and you will see tabby stripes on the > kittens. Was their father a "travelling man"? No, the father is a Russian Blue, too, but his pedigree might not be what is required <rolls eeys>. Russian Blues have stripes as kittens, but the stripes fade away as they get older (or they should fade away - just another reason to discriminate against some cats, if you ask me).

Irulan - 12 Feb 2005 23:15 GMT Aw, I hope things all work out the way you want it to. First, I hope all the kittens get registered and go to good homes, then if they don't, I hope you decide to adopt one or two, then I hope everything works out well. I saw the pics, they are the cutest things. I wish I could adopt one. Jazz & his mama

How sweet! I can just picture them sort of stumbling around like little baby kits do :) I'd tuck one in my pocket!
I'm starting to think I really do have a "Blue" on my hands. Persia has the subtle tail stripes too and very blue fur and lovely green eyes. She talks a lot, as well, especially first thing in the morning. But who on earth would have dumped a Blue? Okay, she has one flaw - apparently got into a cat fight at some point early on and her ear was torn. So it has a small notch in it and a scarred bit where it was stitched up. But she's got the sweetest personality. Her favourite thing is hanging out with me. I'm a total slave. The vet just calls her a "domestic shorthair" but I'm not so sure. Not that it matters. I love her :)
Hopefully your niece will find them all good homes, papers or not.

Mischief - 13 Feb 2005 02:18 GMT Once at the clinic there were two tiny kittens in for shots. They were so small I was able to put one in the pocket of the scrub top. :)

That's just too cute! I wish I'd known Persia as a kitten. On second thought, maybe not. By the time I got her she was enough of a hoolicat - opening the pantry door, crawling inside drawers, etc. She still thoroughly manages to kill paper bags and toilet paper rolls get the bunny kicks from h***.

Gabey8 - 13 Feb 2005 02:38 GMT Aaaaaa! How CUTE!!!
If the Mothership is sending you some Russian Blue kittens, then if their temperament is like the Russian Blue cat my friend had, they'll be wonderful. Fazzolette (RB) had the sweetest disposition imaginable. She was a little grey lap fungus who LIVED to be doted on. And, of course, her Auntie Donna was more than happy to oblige. ;o)
Kira's a beauty, too. :o)
I have a question, though -- from the pictures, some of the kittens seem to have... stripey markings? They're visible in the first picture in the album, http://community.webshots.com/photo/231003059/231003059kDScqB . I'm curious -- is this a usual occurrence with Russian Blues? Will the stripes fade over time?
Stripes or not, those kittens couldn't possibly be more adorable. I *have* two kittens now (they turned 10 months old last Tuesday) and these pics STILL gave me kitten fever. What little sweeties!

So my That's stupid. We have 4 purebred cats in our house but I have no idea where their registration papers are or even if I submitted the one I was supposed to. Who cares? We chose them for the particular traits their breeds were supposed to have, but we love them for who they are. :)

No offense taken, I'm not the breeder, my niece is. I couldn't care less about whether a cat is purebred or not. I just post the pics of them to spread the kitten fever on this group. <eg>
> What's their story? (Sorry if I came into this late...) Despite my and my sisters attempts to indoctrinate her, my niece is into purebreds and cat shows (we tried to make her see that moggies are much nicer. We did manage to convince my other niece of this: she has two shelter cats). I've visited a cat show once, and never again will I go. All those poor cats shut in their small cages for two days and looking at you with completely dead eyes. <shudder> Anyway, this is the second and last litter of my niece's Russian Blue queen, Kira. I'm not a fan of the "purebred-industrial complex," myself, but I have been to a lot of cat shows, and they have without exception been really fun places. Most of the people there are devoted to their cats. The cats are the healthiest you can imagine --and in the great majority, people don't show their more timid, homebody cats. The cats I've seen at shows are mostly either highly sociable, bold and curious types who seek attention, or very laid-back types who tend to take things in stride.

All the cats (simply hundreds and hundreds at one show) seemed to take it in their stride, all cages had comfy fluffy blankets in and litter boxes. Some of the cats came to the front of their pens to do head butts, but others just relaxed doing upside downy head. They were all beautiful, well cared for and groomed to perfection.
I fell in love with a Havana, the most beautiful brown cat I'd ever seen and had to be dragged away by my late DH before I could order a kitten (or two)

Some of the cats came to the front of their pens to do head butts, > but others just relaxed doing upside downy head. Oh, these cats had all thos ethings - blankies, litter boxes, even toys. But they just stared at us with complete apathy in their eyes.

PatM - 15 Feb 2005 20:48 GMT Sorry so long......:) There used to be a thriving cat club in our city that I was in for years. We put on 2 CFA (expensive!!) shows as well as a household pet cat show (boy, that's another story!) every year. The CFA shows were a tremendous amount of work and worry (like housing and entertaining the judges--i.e. we had to stock a particular brand of bottled water for one, a certain snack food for another) but for 2 days we were immersed in everything CAT with vendors and breeders and whathaveyou from all over the states...it was fascitating. The cats, for the most part, seemed to be as professional as their owners. Taking the admiration and the hustle and bustle and grooming in stride, even with boredom. I knew the home life of our local cats and they were raised in homes--part of the family--alongside dogs and kids. Some folks like the characteristics a certain breed carries (Just like dog breeds...a laid-back couple like dh and I probably wouldn't do well with an energetic parson russle terrier. or a sight-hound that needs to run) so they look for a pure bred persian, or fold, or siamese...they all have very different personalities . Personally, I have never met a cat I didn't like and that I wouldn't drag home at the drop of a hat!!
