My cats always like to lay on  the shelving we made to cover the tops
of our radiators in our house. I have always worried they would burn
themselves by getting up there that I wake upp at nights some times to
make sure no one is on the radiator.
Yeasterday I slipped the shelving off from the top of the radiator to
give it a good cleaning and Noisey But (Sashas new nickname) decided to
jump up there and see whay it looked different I quess. I glanced
around at her and there she stands on top of the radiator doing what I
have named the "its hot dance" She was standing there lifing on paw up
then relizing the others were hot to and trying to lift another paw
with out standing, but never did she try and get down she was to busy
trying to smell every inch of the newley exposed radiator top.
Well to make a story short I cleaned the shelving placed it back on top
and so far I have not seen her back on there.
And Sasha wonders why I say she is like a two year old.
(sasha here, I was looking for greeblings and thats the special dance
you got to do, Hoomines what can you do with them)

My mom always called Mimi "The Chief Inspector." ;)

Oh, my cats always sat on the radiator-- it scares me.  They have
never burned themselves, but I've always chased them off.  They must
*really* like that warmth.  My mother (that great poetic type ;))
would say to me, "Your cat is getting a hot @$$."

This worries me too.  DH & I just bought a house (and there will be
great rejoicing if I ever finish this d*mned packing!) which has cast
iron radiators.  Only one of them is covered so I'm calculating the
materials I'll need to make covers for them because I just *know* the
cats will want to sleep on them :)

I used to live in a place with radiators like that. The cats loved them,
especially Nikki. She would often sleep on them. Then, when it got too
hot, she would suddenly come shooting off it and ooze out on the floor
to cool down. I don't think you have to worry. We never had any burns.

In school, we just put a board on top to make it a shelf. They were steam
radiators. Don't know if it is the same but didn't seem to cause a problem.

All of my radiators have covers on them but I still worry about them
burning themselves, then again I worry about everything they do. I
tried to get the hot dance on tape but it happened to fast.

Many years ago when Isis and Fugazi were but small kittens, we didn't
have any central heating, we heated our flat with one of those two bar
fires and I remember trying to keep warm while the feline heat sinks
absorbed most of the heat and suddenly smelling singed fur....

"Gaz-Gaz" I said "You're on fire...."

She opened one eye, yawned, mewed her thanks and rolled over to do the
other side.....

Sorry to laugh but that was to funny, I can see her in my mind just
brushing it off and finishing her nap..

I don't think she would even brushed it off..... When Gaz was asleep a
fairly large nuclear explosion would have been needed to get her
attention
