The eager Roadcat

The last two or three weeks have been very unsettled for us. Due to the
slow freight at this time of year, my brother's surgery and mom's cancer
recurrence, etc. Harri and I have been spending a week or so at home
then a week or two on the road. She really likes her times at home, but
still has fun on the road as well.

We're now running the kind of load I used to hate - picked up in
Fairfield, CA on Thursday and delivers in Las Vegas on Monday. 5 days to
drive around 600 miles is a horrible waste of time. I normally run trips
like that in one long run then spend several days sitting around
twiddling my thumbs. This time, though, we're doing it as a series of
short runs. We spent Thursday night in Sacramento, Friday night in
Fowler, CA, Saturday night in Barstow, CA and will spend tonihgt (Friday
night) in Las Vegas. That gives us a chance to do kitten walks at a
variety of places.

This morning I got out of the bunk while it was still dark outside. I
guess Harri REALLY likes her dark walks better than her daylight walks.
As I sat in the driver seat putting my shoes on, Harri jumped onto the
dashboard, picked up her harness in her mouth, and jumped down to sit in
the driver-side footwell (sitting in the driver's footwell is her signal
that it's time for a walk). She always let's me know it's time for a
walk by sitting in the footwell, but she has never brought her harness
over before! I call that a bright kitten.

So sorry about your family's troubles-- and sending purrs for them--
but yes, your Harri is one smart little cookie. ;)
Glad her company brings you such joy in such unsettled times.

Ohmygawd!  I've heard of d*gs doing that, but never a cat!  Even though
Sammy loves to go shopping at PetsMart, she *hate* having her harness put
on.  I just had to buy one that had snaps instead of buckles since she
squirms so much when I'm putting her in it.

Hugs,

I had to do that. Her previous harness finally just got too big - my
baby is growing up! Even with both straps buckled in the last hole they
were getting kind of snug, and she was resisting because it was taking
me a while to get it fastened. So we picked up a larger harness with
snap buckles and Petsmart and she no longer fusses when I start hooking
her up.

Felix is big enough that we have to buy d*g size harnesses for him
[the cat size range doesn't go high enough].

Sammy is getting there!  The last one we got was "adjustable" and we
adjusted it as big as it could get and it's still snug.  I didn't think
about looking for one in the d*g section - thanks!

NP :-). I strongly suspect that Sammy's going to be a good deal bigger
than Felix when she finally hits her full growth [and if she's a Maine
Coon, she'll probably keep growing until she's about 3. We got Felix
at approximately age 2, and he was still growing for some time after
that].

It will. IME with kittens, the first year is when they do the most
growing.

Rhonda is amusing in many ways, starting with a drama queen/clown
personality.  Another distraction is that she looks like a Maine Coon
right out of the book -- but weighs about 6.5 pounds at 2 1/2 years.
Nevertheless, she doesn't have any trouhle wrestling 11-pound Ding.

Mind you, she's run into Mr. Clark a time or two, and the great mass
raised an eyebrow and inquired "were you desirous of my attention?"
Apropos of the thread "what if your cat was the size of a lion," Mr.
Clark manages more-or-less lion cub.

I got Rusty when he was 1 year old. He hasn't grown at all.
Now that he is at a ripe old age of 10, the vets told me to feed
him more as he has lost weight.

Just think, we were talking about "what if our cats were lion-sized" in
another thread. ;o)

Oh, I have to tell my sister to look in the d*g department at the pet
store. She is having trouble finding a harness for her big boy Linus.

You *did* take her for her walk, didn't you?  Sounds like she's doing a good
job of training you.

Oh, certainly! I wouldn't dream of keeping my codriver waiting when it's
so clearly time for a walk :)

We're going to do a midday walk as well today. We made it up to Las
Vegas and found parking space at the Flying J truck stop, so we're just
waiting until the Superbowl starts at 3:30 Pacific time to do our
walking. Neither Harri or I is even the least bit interested in any sort
of sporting events.

that was something.

I can hardly believe that Harri got her harness in her mouth and took it to
you, but if you say so, it's true.
She is one amazing intelligent kitten.

It doesn't appear to have been a fluke either - she did it again today.

Obviously a bright kitten who love her taking Paw on early morning
walks ;-)

My Sam once got upset when I wasn't paying attention and started to
put HER collar on LB (they don't wear them inside, so know that
they're going to get to go into the OUT when I get down their collars
and come running.)
