This is hard to write.
In the last few days Pericles, my lovely 6yo red tabby Maine Coon, has
been a bit subdued and developed a bit of a pot belly. As he had a
slightly below normal appetite I was suspicious and thought it might
well be worms, but a dose of Drontal didn't produce any useful results
so it was off to TED. James Hunt (TED)[yes, same as the '70's GP racing
driver] diagnosed fluid in the abdomen and has sent
off samples of that and blood to the lab. The fluid was clear, so he
thinks it won't be an infection but has numerous suspects pending test
results, the 3 main being: Feline Peritonitis, Liver or Kidney disease.
Any experience in this area anyone?
These are all potentially so serious that I'm worried sick. Peri is much
too young, pampered and beloved to have this happen to him, even though
I knew when I rescued him as a kitten that he wasn't up to par.
Please raise all the purrs you can that it turns out to be nothing too
disastrous.
Results might be back tomorrow (Friday) afternoon: failing that it's a
nightmare weekend of uncertainty until Monday.
TIA for your positive thoughts

Purrs for Peri. For FIP they can test for exposure to the feline
coronavirus, but no real test for FIP itself. I haven't read the
replies to your post, but I'm sure someone else already said this.
Try to keep positive thoughts, and I hope you have results by now.
Purrs.

Double strength purrs that it turns out to be nothing serious.
Nanki-Poo didn't have fluid in the abdomen, but he was seriously ill shortly
after I adopted him from the shelter. The doctor felt it was one of the
three fatal viruses cats get, and had him tested. The tests were negative,
and after a few days he began heating. He is now healthy and has gained a
lot of weight. I hope the outcome for Pericles is similar.
