A few purrs for Joel(DH)?

Yowie - 02 Feb 2005 01:57 GMT
If there's a few spare purrs around, I think Joel, my DH, could use a few.

Its been a crappy month, money has been a big issue and we ran out before we
could get Joel all the medication he needs and we couldn't afford his to pay
for his psychologist appointment so had to cancel, and as such, he's feeling
pretty aweful. Cary has been a handful  with teething and starting to crawl
into places he shouldn't get into, and just to make Joel feel worse (he's
the stay at home Dad) Cary fell the lounge and split his lip open this week.
Cary was fine (bar the split lip) but there was lots of blood, and because
of the lack of meds and therapy, it really got to Joel. He was hysterical
when I got home from work that day. To top it off, IBKFergus seems to enjoy
torturing Cary's feet and we don't know how we can keep them seperate. As
soon as Cary's on the floor, IBKFergus is there biting away, and Cary isn't
old enough to defend himself yet, so he screams and cries (IBKFergus is in
dire danger of having to find another foreverhome if she doesn't learn
*very* quickly that baby feet are not to be played with. I don't think
kittens and young babies are a good mix, unfortuantley). Its making Joel
*really* stressed out and depressed, and combine that with his lack of meds
and therapy, and that he has to stay home all day looking after an unhappy
Cary, and he's *really* not a happy camper, and there's nothing I can do
because I've got to be here at work to earn the money.

He'll kill me for doing this, but if you can spare some calming and soothing
purrs for Joel and Cary, I'd really appreciate it.

Calming purrs on the way for you, Joel and Cary. Have you tried soft shoes
on Cary to keep his toes away from IBKFergus? I'm not a mother but is sounds
like it might work.

Hugs and purrs for your stressful situation. I hope things financially
get better soon. I wonder if there is a friend who could take care of
the baby and kitty and let you and Joel have some relief? Could Cary
maybe wear shoes with the strings tucked under the socks, unless they
still have the string holders they had 35 years ago. As for IBKFergus
(what does IBK stand for, anyway?) maybe he could be put under an
upsidedown laundry basket near Cary so they could play a little safer
when Cary is on the floor.

Purrs and purr-ayers are on the way, even as I type.

Here's to seeing February be a VAST improvement over the previous month.

Sending some special purrs ASAP.

Sounds like a playpen might be in order.  For Cary or Fergus as the case may
be.

Poor Joel.  Most every parent has had a baby fall off the bed or some such
accident.  Not that it makes anyone feel better, but they just learn to get
around faster than we can keep up with what they can do.

Sounds like purrs are needed all around. Plenty here to share. Joel actually
sounds like any stressed out parent I know. RE: IBKFergus and Cary's feet,
what about a play pen of sorts for him?

After passing out purrs to others in need tonight, I find that there's still
quite a sackful left.  Please take whatever Joel needs, some for Cary, and
keep a few for yourself.

Purrs coming for the whole family. This is a rough patch, but you will
get through it, I'm absolutely sure of that. Hugs coming as well. I
don't know if this is doable, but is there anything you could smear on
Cary's feet so Fergus won't bite them? Might not be so nice to smear
something icky on your baby's feet, but it could be something like
citrus-scented lotion?

Ugh - its not easy being home with a baby at the best of times.  Purrs to
Joel.

Robeez slippers are great little things for babies.  They simply cannot get
them off and they are thin leather contraptions that come in great colours.
Most baby stores around here carry them.  Not great when you're short of
cash but it might work for you next month as a more permanent solution with
IBK.

http://www.robeez.com/default.asp?refid=5000

Does Joel take the kind of meds that can be stopped like that?  Some of them
send you into massive withdrawl I know.  I hope he's ok.

Take care,

Oh, yes, many purrs for *all* of you - including IBKF.  Sure hope
you don't have to part with her.  More importantly, our very best
thoughts for Joel to feel better and get the meds he needs to cope, as
well as a solution to your financial and domestic problems.  Hugs.

purrs and headbutts along with calming thoughts and wishes for you all.
Shoes on Cary might help with the cat.  Joel is a wonderful papa, and
is doing everything he can for Cary.  Rob once fell asleep and let Mandy
crawl off the bed.  Fortunately, she wasn't hurt beyond a fat lip, but
he felt bad for a long time.  Stuff happens.

I think I'd go with the suggestion of soft shoes that someone made and a
squirt bottle of water for IBKFergus, to be used whenever he gets cheeky
with Cary.  Soon all Joel will have to do is pick up the squirt bottle
and IBKFergus will leave Cary alone.

Purrs and sympathy for you all.  Tell Joel to hang in there, he's doing
a great job.

BTW purrs and good thoughts for all those who want and/or need them.  My
hand hurts too much to reply to all the posts that I want to.

Lots of claming purrs on the way to you and your family.
Yowie, I have a suggestion for the feet thing I am not sure how old
Cary is but I did this with my son when he was an Infant (he is 29 now)
I rubbed bitter apple on his feet (not because of the cats but because
he keep them in his mouth 24/7) it stopped him and I know my vet has
told me before to use it to stop my cats from suckling each other. It
maybe worth a try.

Lots of soothing purrs and prayers that things get calmer at home. Don't
feel guilty, both of you are doing your best. Just sounds like a normal
family with a little baby and a little kitty-cat. Get Joel and Cary into
a hot, soothing bath at night and hope they'll both sleep like babies.
Hugs to you, both of you hang in there.

Purrs for *all* of you.  Believe me, I know about the running out of
money and cancelling appointments and skipping meds stuff.  Don't have
a baby, but kittens can surely be a handful and stress things out.
Here's hoping things get better for you guys, and very soon.

Mega-Purrs to you all from us here in Cornwall.

Hope things improve really soon.

Just a thought about IBKF biting Cary's feet: assuming it happens not
too far away from Joel, could he be pre-armed with a glass of water
ready to chuck it over the miscreant when he misbehaves? A soaking plus
an acompanying loud HISS, understood universally as Cattish for "stop
that immediately" would soon put a stop to IBKF's antics. I realise Cary
might get wet too but it'd be nowhere near as traumatic for him as for
any furperson.

Hope that might help.

Best wishes
