Well, Scout and Silver will let us handle them again... on Friday
night Scout would run and hide if you bent down to touch her, and
Silver would stand her ground and swear profusely at you. They're back
to being cuddly now, but on their own terms only. If they come to you
and jump up on your lap then that's okay, but otherwise don't touch!
Alas they're not any more friendly to each other. When they get too
close, they snarl and growl and hisspit and occasionally engage claws.
Nobody's been hurt yet, and I think it's mostly bluff.

They had a few minutes of detente(sp?) last night - they both wandered
out into the familyroom and I found them perched on the back of the
couch. Scout was at one end and Silver was at the other, with my
stuffed leopard inbetween them blocking the view. That way they could
each pretend the other wasn't there!

PS. changing their scent didn't work. :( I put some lavender oil into
a glass of water and swished it around, then wiped them down with it.
They were not impressed. I also tried somebody else's tip and dabbed
vanilla essence on their noses. Again, no go. They still growl and
hisspit at each other. This seems to be a battle of wills, and I'm
pretty sure that Silver's going to win. Right now she's ensconsed in
poor Scout's carrier (where Scout has been going to hide since this
started) and she's growling at her sister, while Scout looks puzzled.

You know how a cat will sometimes rub the side of it face against you.  The
part just below and in front of the ear?  They have scent glands there and
are marking what is theirs.

You might want to "transfer" a little of that.  When petting one of them,
make a point of rubbing their face.  Then immediately rub the other ones
neck or feet.

I once tried a dab of vanilla on Xena's forehead because Callisto was
hissing at her when she came home from the TED.  However, vanilla will
leave a long lasting stain on white fur!!!  It took a long time for that
to wear off.   Jennie
