Another one of those questions. How do cats do it? The other day when my
sister visited me, she commented on how shiny white Frank's paws are.
That's not so strange, as he spends a lot of time grooming and looking
after his fur. What I do find amazing is that cats with a white bib
manage to keep that so white. They can't reach under their chin with
their tongue, and though they rub other parts of their head with their
paws, I haven't seen a cat rub his chin like that when grooming himself.
Yet Frank's bib is always immaculate. He sometiems lets Nikki wash it,
but not very often. He loves getting chin scritches, but I'd think my
grubby fingers would make his chin dirtier, not cleaner. ;o)

Heh. Today I was thinking just the opposite; I looked at how grubby
the cushions where Lula and Hubie tend to sleep have gotten and said,
"How do you guys get so dirty when you don't go outside?" They didn't
tell me, though.
Seriously, I bet Frank does wash his bib and you just don't notice. My
white Mikey was always sparkly white except on the back of his neck
where he truly couldn't reach.

Chablis is the same. However, having observed her habbits. she can clean
right under her chin with her tounge. Aren't cat's spinal systems great?

Stinky's white is dazzling. ;) I can't use the camera flash on him,
because he bounces the flash right back. I often catch him lying on
his back cleaning under his armpits. It's hilarious. ;)

I'm not sure how kitties clean right under their chin... that's a good
question. :o) But cats' skin is loose. I wonder if that fact doesn't make
their lives easier when they're trying to clean the areas in the front of
their neck? Maybe they're able to get to more of the fur in their throat
area because their loose skin allows them to access more fur with that
li'l sandpaper tongue?
Good question. Captain and Stanley seem to know the answer, judging by how
white the white parts of their fur are, but they're not telling. ;o)
It must be one of those kitty trade secrets, right up there with "Why does
the cat suddenly start charging all over the house for no apparent
reason?" ;o)

The "zoomies" ;o) Persia successfully killed a paper bag tonight after
dinner and then ran all over the apartment sounding like a herd of
elephants. This same cat hops up on the bed with barely a hint of being
there until she snuggles up next to me (she's a snuggly girl); she can tread
so lightly when she wants to!

The parts they can't lick, they lick a paw and then rub the spot, then lick
the paw again, etc.
You've watched them wash their faces, right?
Our first cat taught our first poodle to do that and we have had a series of
poodles that wash their own faces like a cat.

I had a dog, Sampson (1982-1999), who was never in his life around cats.
You know how some dogs eyes get all gunky? Sampson from the get-go (I
acquired him before he was really of age to be totally weaned) licked his
paws and washed his eyes and face that way. I always thought it was weird.

That's a good, good question, Marina. Of course, as I was watching TV
tonight, I saw Nina and Francesca having a marathon mutual grooming session
while lying together at the opposite end of the sofa. I suspect Mama helps
Nina reach the hard spots, because Nina's white bib, chin, neck and tummy
are always very clean and white. Nina can manage to keep her paws white on
her own. Did God make cats ultra flexible to help them keep themselves
clean, or are cats clean because God made them ultra flexible for
flexibility's sake? =o)
