First, apologies for not posting much lately - I'm battling the flu (which
is, I think, my body telling me to quit pushing so hard lately and take a
rest). Purrs to everyone who needs them.
Next, OUCH! I was sitting at my desk a few minutes ago when Sammy jumped up
to the back of my chair and then tried to move down to the arm. Now,
whoever said cats were graceful has never met Sammy. This little girl is
just like me - a *MAJOR* klutz! She slipped on the chair arm and fell off
the side of my chair. As she was falling, she latched onto my arm with her
claws to try to save herself. 15 pounds of kitten was hanging from my arm,
slowly falling to the ground, as her claws dug deeper and deeper into my
elbow! The claws didn't create a tear, so I won't need stitches, but they
punctured so deep it felt like they went right down to the bone! I washed
the wound with disinfectant soap and put on some Neosporin, but - OUCH!!!
Little sweetie that she is, she was totally repentant and jumped up again to
lick my face in comfort.
Hugs,

Ouch indeed! I had something similar happen once with Nikki. She was on
top of the cat tree and I was mussing her around the way she likes me
to. She was purring so hard and writhing around on the shelf, and then
suddenly she rolled over the side. I didn't manage to catch her, and she
tried to catch my arm while she went down. Result: a loooooooong scratch
all the way down my arm, which was visible all summer. Got lots of
comments on that. ;o)

None months old. Here's her latest picture (with a picture of her
boyfriend, "Exocat's" Pericles, on the monitor behind her)
http://www.possibleplaces.com/SammysBoyfriend/.
To get a better picture of just how big she is, go to:

We here on rpca suspect that the infamous Sammy has more than a bit of Maine
Coon ancestry. For stories of *why* Sammy is infamous worldwide, go here:

Hmmmm. Very very cute indeed. Doesn't look as heavy as all that though, or
particularly big.....perhaps I had better weigh Memphis. He may be a lot
heavier than I thought! See what you mean about the Maine Coone thing.

Good God! Sammy is ginormous for her age! Now at seven months, I estimate
that Nina is about 5-6 pounds, and Francesca perhaps weighs 8 or 9 pounds.
Pan is about 6.5 pounds. He's fairly thin but not gaunt, while Nina is a
solid kitty, but not fat. (She doesn't stay still long enough for her food
to settle.)

Yep, but she's not at all fat - she *is* about 3.5 to 4 feet long from nose
to tail. She can stand on her hind legs and put her front feet on my
counter tops!

I think Sammy is just a Maine Coon, no matter who her parents were. ;)
She has all the MCC characteristics, including that lovely coat, fuzzy
pawsies, a sweet heart, a sense of humor, and of course, ENORMOUSNESS.

Gordon Bennett!! She's bigger than a whippet. Or at least, longer.

Empathetic purrs for your Ouchie.
Pericles when young once came down from a High Place using me as the
ladder: but instead of dismounting via my clothed shoulder as all
intelligent and considerate cats do he used my head. Said hairy head
being slippery he began to fall off before he was ready for the
organised dismount and so dug in all 4 sets of claws in those moments
before I could lift him off. Under my fortunately luxuriant locks I
think I have 18 individual scars, legacy of his skidmarks.
Luckily he's_much_ too sober to do that nowadays. You've only 3 years
and 3 months left (roughly) of hyperactivity. My own theory is that
Maine Coon clumsiness has to do with the distance between their front &
back legs: signals
from the brain arrive at the stern just that vital millisecond too late
for best coordination.
Purrs, & hopes that you recover soon.
Gordon (the TT weren't in on this one but are purring nonetheless).

I know, I've *NEVER* had a cat that was as clumsy as Sammy is!

She may get her coordination together yet. Stinky was a hilariously
clumsy young cat-- he's the only cat I've ever seen fall down the
stairs. When he was more mature, he could navigate the tables and
shelves without knocking anything over.

I think Oscar's the opposite. As a kitten, she'd balance herself on the backs
of my dining room chairs, which are *maybe* an inch wide and curved. I found
her on top of all sorts of weird places.
Nowadays, I hear a lot more crashing, and she seems completely uninterested in
trying anything so demanding as standing on an inch-thick strip of anything.
