Why does Pearl hate it when I sing and play guitar??? I am trying to write a
song (and REALLY, I am not bad at all) and she just HATES it. She comes up
on me and stares at me intensely and pulls at my had with her paw and bites
at me. She seems extremely concerned. Even if I try to be really really
quiet she still comes over and gets upset. It makes me crazy.

I'm so sorry karen, but that is just so funny. Pearl's a critic now. :-)  LOL.
I can just hear her. "I give this artist two snorts."

Sorry, Karen, but ROFL! What a critic.

It may be that Pearl is thinking at the same time: "I have a really good
idea for a chord right there. Why can't I make her understand???? I stand
next to her and THINK it at her as hard as I can! But she must not hear me
because she never uses my ideas!" ROFL

A thought: is this acoustic or electric guitar?

Electric guitars, especially if the amplifier is distorting
(accidentally or intentionally), it can produce sounds that the cat
can hear and people, especially those who have spent a lot of time
exposed to very loud music (or noise), can't.

Nope, acoustic. and she doesn't much mind too much anymore when I play
classical. She seems ultra concerned about any singing though. I guess she
thinks I'm hurt or something.

LOL!

If it's any consolation, Misty(RB) used to get upset when I played violin.
She HATED that thing.

I didn't even have to actually play it for her to get agitated. All I had
to do was pluck the open strings for her to take off running. Humans
thought my playing was just fine, so I always presumed there were some
tones emanating from the violin that are outside the range of human
hearing.

She didn't mind the guitar, or the recorder. But the violin?
Fuhgeddaboutit.

Donna, and Captain and Stanley who have not evolved into music critics
yet.

P.S. Melody and Harmony, both RB, didn't mind the violin. Of course, with
musical names like theirs, one would think they would enjoy a bit of live
music. :o)

Its a well known fact that neither cats nor dogs like the music that is made
from  instruments such as harmonica's, or guitars ,violins we had a dog
along time ago that used to lift up his head and howl whenever my Dad
played his concertina, or we kids played Dads Harmonica, it seemed like he
was singing to  to the music, but never did it when anyone played the piano
or sang, the Vet told us it was because those sort of instruments hurt their
ears, the dog never confirmed this of course so we had to accept the Vets
diagnosis,   Jean.P.

All I can say is that perhaps you sing like me, as Waffles is a bit the same
as Pearl.
Sigh...

lol!

Cats are so strange with sounds.  When I sing, Trill comes up to me
and acts disturbed.  On the other hand, when DH does it (he can't
carry a tune in a bucket), it doesn't bother Trill.  We have
determined that Trill prefers off-key singing.

Then we have Wolfie, who absolutely *adores* the sounds of bells.
Whenever I play any music will bells in it, he will come around and
stare at the speakers, getting his head nearly in front of one of
them.

And we had Geehsa (RB), who used to utterly nuts every time I used my
penny whistle (or just whistled, for that mattter).  She would come
running at top speed from wherever she was.  I honestly couldn't tell
if she loved it or hated it.

Cats are strange, indeed.

Mischief just HAS to have attention if I'm singing.  Now matter where I
am, if I'm singing, she has to be there to get scritches.  What a
queen!

Stinky, too.  He also climbs into my lap when I'm playing the piano.

You either need to get a waterproof guitar and sing in the shower where she
can't get you or get little kitty earmuffs.

LOL
Awww... this reminds me of Shadow. He reacted in the same way,
whether I cried or I sang. Maybe she just thinks you're upset. ;)
