As many of you know, DH and I are both auto racing fans and yet neither
of us felt that the name Mario fit our little black cat. Every time I
tried it out I'd see that obnoxious little guy from the video games.
None of the M names seemed right. TED thinks he's around 1.5 y/o and he
has very sharp little kitten teeth and claws. After he attacked my toe
(aka blanket mouse) and left it bleeding I considered Bear or Badger and
although Bear seemed to work DH didn't like it. I tried other names
that just didn't fit but there was one that I kept coming back to. He
has the look. He has the teeth and he has the claws. So our little
black cat is now Barnabus. And he seems pleased with that name :)

My maternal grandmother had a d*g named Barney. His mother was a Spitz
named Polly and his father was a vagabond Airedale. I was about eight
years old. Thanks for the memory. MLB

I don't think she named him after Barney, I think Barnabus Collins of
Dark Shadow fame is more likely. The little vampire kitty sneaks up to
her feet and bites the toes through the blankets. Satiated, he ghosts
into another room and looks for prey of the feline kind...

I'm trying to get caught up, failing miserably (oh well) but wanted to
say that Yes, Barnabus is named after the vampire in Dark Shadows. When
I was a teenager (in the late 60's) I would get home from school just
before Dark Shadows came on television. I watched daily. I hadn't
really thought of it again until Barnabus came into our lives. I think
because he's black I can see his fangs so much better than I can the
other cats and therefore he looks like a vampire.

Snowball was out in it for hours. Avery went out long enough to get
soaked ... twice. Fleagor went out but came back in so quickly only
his tail got wet (when he turned around on the top step, his tail
swung under the eves drip). The others didn't even try to go out.
According to the weather radar, we (south central Missouri) were north
of the winter mix area and were getting snow - the radar was wrong.

Barnabus is a cute name! Was this inspired by "Dark Shadows"?

Awww, hello and welcoming purrs to Barnabus! He still reminds me of
Tallulah, though. ;-)

Barnabus sounds like a very dignified name.
