The Saga of the Cat Carriers

I think I may have mentioned the arrival of Bruce in the home of
Harry-the-cat. Bruce has settled in very nicely, aside from his dining
problems. His new hoomins put down two bowls, one for Bruce and one for
Harry. Bruce starts eating his, decides Harry's looks better, tries to eat
some, gets thoroughly wapped and/or hisspit at, and goes back to his own.
This has happened at every single meal since his arrival. Even his doting
Meomie, although she praises his handsomeness and his laid-back (if not
cuddly) personality, has to admit Bruce is not the brightest bulb in the
feline pack. He doesn't pick up on hints very readily. But otherwise,
things are going fine.

Bruce arrived in a cat carrier. The new humans were slightly surprised by
size of the cat carrier, which seemed more suited for a small dog, but
that was a trivial point. After bringing Bruce home, they shipped the
carrier back by air to the Meomie, that being cheaper than buying another
carrier.

The next cat, I think he's called Yoshi, finally had his custody
straightened out, and was transported to the airport in a taxi, carried in
the arms of his Meomie. She asked for the carrier that she was expecting
to be shipped to her, assembled it, got Yoshi ready, took him home in it
when the flight was delayed due to weather, brought him back, and
eventually got him, in the carrier, on the plane.

By this time, at this end, Harry's people had gotten a call to pick up a
cat carrier at the airport. This one was a small, cat-sized one, but
completedly devoid of cats. They brought it home - it had Bruce and
Yoshi's Meomie's id on it.

At the other end, Yoshi's Meomie, having seen him on the plane, was called
by the airport staff who told her they had a cat carrier for her....

This one also had her name written on it in large letters with a marker,
so, by now rather confused, she took it home.

We are now up to a total of three cat carriers, one here, one on the way
here with Yoshi, and one on the mainland.

Then, the airline called with a bill for the purchase of a cat carrier. It
was explained to them that there were in fact three cat carriers at last
count, none of which had been purchased from the airline, and one of which
had arrived without the cat it had originally contained. However, the
family was perfectly happy to bring back one or two of the carriers in
return for the cancellation of the bill. The airline considered this,
then called back and said they'd cancel the bill, but they had a policy of
never re-using pet carriers, so the family could keep it. Them. Whatever.

Yoshi is now settling in after a rather unfortunate start in his new home
when he was chased under the washing machine by Bruce, which required
moving the washer and dismantling the base to retrieve him. However, this
was a blessing in disguise, because the family discovered that the washer
hose had weakened and needed to be replaced.
