It occured to me that I never "closed out" my post about Oscar and Dad.

Dad has been out of the hospital for a week after having a small portion of
his small intestines removed.  He's feeling well, although he won't be allowed
to ride his bike for a while still.  His stomach shrunk during the four days
in which he wasn't allowed to eat, and he's taking advantage of this silver
lining by sticking to the small portions with which he's now satisfied.  I
wish him good luck in the weight loss arena; he's not a small man, though he's
active.

Oscar saw the vet on Monday for her second steroid shot to combat the
"indolent ulcer," or grana<mumble mumble>.  Others here know the technical
term.  Anyway, the lip looks very much better, just a hint of pink, maybe.  Or
maybe the pink is imagined.  The ulcer never seemed to bother her, but it sure
scared me!

We've now met all three of the vets at the AnimalHouse clinic, and I like them
all.  (Oscar, of course, hates them.)  Our vet on Monday weighed Oscar and
exclaimed, "Eight and a half pounds!  Good girl!"  I wasn't so thrilled, and I
pointed out that Oscar had weighed almost ten pounds in early December, just
before I switched her to canned food.  We looked her over some more.  The vet
and I both think she's in great shape, but really shouldn't lose any more
weight.  I'm thinking of getting a vet scale; I could weigh her for free at
the vet's, but that's a long, traumatic trip for Oscar.  Oscar is healthy and
active, and I want her to stay that way for a very long time.

Thanks for the good news and follow-up, Monique.  Glad to hear about your
Dad's progress and also Oscar's recovery!
