and Mariah needs a more...ummm..masculine name..heehee. I think I've
insulted him by calling him Mariah. In my defense, he has been neutered
and he's black and wouldn't let me get a close look. Other than being
misnamed he's healthy and passed the required tests to be allowed to
stay inside with the rest of the feline family.

My little sister was supposed to be named Mylo Wayne if she were a boy.
I'd have sued. My parents had the worst taste in names...but then my
father had nothing to do with my name. He dropped mom off at the
hospital and said call when they let you come home.

"Mario" :) So glad he is healthy !!
Mischief - 26 Jan 2005 03:22 GMT
Don't feel too bad. I thought Mischief was a boy when she first came
into the apartment. Because of the pretty gray coloring, I starting
saying "Mr. Gray."
It wasn't until the next day when I took her to the vaccine clinic
where I worked at the time. The vet looked at her and said, "Chiquita"
Since I had said if I got another friend for Imp I would name it
Mischief. So, Mr. Gray became Mischief Gray. :)

Before you feel too bad.
When out first cat Sam was injured we almost didn't go to the local vet to
check out the injured gray female cat they had taken in. We only went
because the cat had been found a block from where we lived by a friend of a
friend.
Sam BTW was a recently altered male registered lilac point Siamese.
So even the vet made the same mistake when he couldn't get a really good
look.
Didn't someone here report that a vet had actually opened an incision to
spay a cat only to find no goodies inside?

> That happened with a cat that I had taken to be spayed. The vet explain
that it wasn't rare, but, was unusual. He did charge for the procedure
though. The cat, Pretty, was a special member of the family and lived a
long, happy life with a wonderful d*g companion. Brings back memories of
when the children were little (they are in their 30's and 40's now). If I
were ever to write the story of my life the chapter titles would be the
names of my pets, not numbers.

My vet told me the only way to confirm a spay is to open the cat back up.
However, he was able to feel a scar so we figured Persia had been spayed.
She'd been front declawed, too, so it was a safe assumption... and she's
never gone into heat (she's 5 or 6).

I took my little Mimi to be spayed, to discover she had already been.
She came home stitiched, shaved, and very PO'd. She was very
forgiving, though.

This happened to Princess (RB 16) back in 1983. The Vet said there was no
scar that they could see when they shaved her belly. To say that Princess
was miserable is putting it mildly. I felt she blamed me for taking her
to that place . MLB

I don't feel quite as bad as I did when I discovered that QC, the cat
I'd been blithely undressing in front of for all those years, was not a
cat of the feminine persuasion. In short QC seems to stand for Queer
Cat, and not quality control, as we'd assumed. He was rather
disgruntled to be unmasked and seems to be happier being referred to as
she. She weighs around 20 lbs so I'm not going to argue with hi...her.

LOL! Nice to hear he's clear of all nasties. How are the other cats

How about Murray? Or the other suggestion of Mario could work. Maybe
Murphy? Or would that be tempting the fates?

If Julie names him Murphy, and he gives birth, I'm going to encourage
Julie to sue you. Especially if Dan Quayle gets involved.

lol!
You're not the first one this has happened to, for sure. With Circe,
he wasn't yet neutered, and I was told he was a she when I adopted
him, so I asssumed he *was* a she. Until the day I was brushing his
belly and out popped something that made my eyes pop! Oops!
Now with Sabra, he just gave off a feminine energy. We always joke
that he *must* have been a drag queen in his last human lifetime.
He's got the attitude and the look. But when we had the vet check,
oops again! She was a he, neutered.
Both of them black cats, btw!

How about "Mickey"?

Mars, Marcus or Mithras perhaps, if you swing mythological. Micah or
Matthias if you swing Biblical?

Thanks Baha. I've been looking at Mythological names as well as American
Native names. DH and I both are reluctant to go with the favorite name
of the group, Mario, even though we're both racing enthusiasts. I keep
seeing that annoying little guy from video games - Mario.
Sometimes I think he should be named Bear or Raven. I keep calling him
Mariah and Rusty looks at me in total disgust. Last night I laughed and
said "Hey - My Name I Sue, How Do You Do?" He just shook his head and
said emphatically, "NO".
He will tell me what his name is when he's ready and we'll go with that.
But I'm considering all of the recommendations from everyone.
