Arthur's First Hit

Well, I recovered a sort of kitty condo thing from the trash about a
year and a half ago.  We put it in the basement (just for a few
months, mind you) to make sure there were no nasty germs or whatever
on it.  It needed two poles recovered in carpet, and was missing the
top shelf, but was otherwise in good shape.  And with new carpeting
put in next door, I asked the carpet guy if I could have a remnant,
and he gave me a very nice sized remnant of brand-new carpet.

Yesterday, I was tired of waiting, and lugged the thing upstairs
(okay, *partway* upstairs -- had to yell for DH to help me get the
thing the rest of the way).  I spent several hours cutting, measuring,
hammering nails and otherwise playing carpenter, as DH nervously held
his hands where I told him, hoping he wouldn't get smacked with the
scary wife's hammer.

Arthur, of course, was already playing on it before I even got to
start work on it!

I finally got it done, cleaned up, put back my tools, and then did the
final piece de resistance:  rubbed it over with catnip.

Now, Arthur is about 7-8 months old, and I haven't had any catnip out
for awhile.  Most cats won't respond to catnip before they are six
months old (sort of a built-in "We Card" program).  Not all cats
respond to catnip, either.  I had no idea whether or not Arthur was a
responder.

Shortly after I poured the "drugs" all over the playground, Arthur
jumped up and took a big snort.  And then another snort.  He looked
around briefly to make sure the narcs weren't about.  And then
proceeded to roll and flop around in the tasty herb with wild abandon.

I think Arthur likes catnip.  And the new kitty playground.

That's a wonderful story.  Thanks for sharing it.
Kitty is immune to catnip, and BF indulges only occasionally.  I just loved
to see BF on his very first trip with some "Good stuff" my friend bought for
him.  I enclosed some in a piece of material which I closed up with a rubber
band.  I waved it in front of him.
At first he took no notice, then he got the smell.  He took the pouch out of
my hand.  He rolled on his back and held it at "arm's length" with his front
paws.  He didn't know quite what it was.
He brought his paws towards his mouth.  He bit and bit into the catnip
pouch, he slobbered and rolled about with it for 20 minutes.
When I told my friend who bought it for him she said "well worth the money"

Well that is a fun snowy day project!! I bet it really will be a hit with
the whole furry clan.

Naughty Meowmie is pushing 'Nip onto an impressionable youngster! =o)
However, it sounds like everyone's happy with the windfall, as long as the
DH does not now have 10 bandaged fingers. <G> My guys have never been all
that excited about catnip, but maybe I've just never given them the really
good stuff. I remember one Easter when a friend of mine left an "easter
basket" for me that also included the cats, as she had put in a big bag of
catnip.  But... she left it in my carport. By the time I went out, there was
nothing much left of that bag of catnip except a  very ripped bag, and the
scattered  remnants of leaves that looked well chewed.  Some of the other
local kitties must have had a  GREAT morning, though!

LOL - I have fears of narcs busting down our doors to find little plastic
bags of a weed-like substance in most drawers around my house.  "Honest,
officer, that's the cats' stash, not mine!!!"  ;>

Hugs,
