I wish you all could see her in person, pictures just don't do her justice. And the best thing is to touch her - I have "NEVER* felt any other animal who is so soft and plush. When you see her you can't help but touch her and when you touch her you just can't stop petting!!!

Gabey8 - 23 Jan 2005 20:10 GMT Ah, she's GORGEOUS! No wonder she has so many admirers! :o) If your PetSmart was anywhere near here, I'd be admiring her, too. :o)
I look forward to the day when I can do this with the boys. They *adore* attention, even now that they're starting to get the idea that doting comes in an unlimited supply in this house.
They continually amaze me with their outgoing natures. They are currently exploring the first floor of the house for the first time. No hiding or running from anything from THIS pair. Just interested exploration and looking around and trying to figure out what to sniff first.
Stanley's content to sit and watch Captain explore some of the nooks and crannies. He figures if Captain makes it through unscathed, it's safe for cats. :o) But he hasn't hidden nor run away from anything yet.
They even survived the first reprimand with no problem. Stanley clawed at the love seat. I went over and said sternly, "Stanley, no, no, no!" while carefully removing his paws from the upholstery. He looked at me with a somewhat hurt-feelings expression, but didn't run.
Then I felt bad and decided to introduce him to the carpeted kitty tower, which he IS allowed to claw on, instead. I took him to it, made scratching motions, and then set him on it so he could see out the front window. All was forgiven. :o)
Anyway, before I sidetrack things too much, in my roundabout way I'm saying that I think my boys will be very amenable to trips to PetSmart once they're a little older and I've had time to leash-train them.
In the meantime, kudos to you and Sammy for proving that cats can be just as outgoing and friendly in public places as d-pets can. :o)

CatNipped - 24 Jan 2005 18:59 GMT > Oh she has the kind of fur that you could just rub for Hours. She looks so > soft and those big eyes, those eyes are how she gets over. Yep, the eyes just do it for me. When she was at the vet for her spaying, I wrote a (terribly baaaaaad) poem:
"Look at you so soft, and furry Growing up in too much hurry Please slow down for just a bit, and Let me savor you as kitten
Quicksilver fast, mock ferocious But to me you are so precious Rumbling purrs and squeaky cries Melt my heart with sweet Sammy eyes
You streak across the bedroom floor Misjudge a turn and miss the door Mommy runs to kiss your boo-boo Swipe her nose in lieu of thank you
When awake - naughty and scheming But such an angel when you're dreaming Stop killing bugs and chasing flies Delight me with sweet Sammy eyes
Sucking your toes, batting your head Chasing Bandit across the bed All the cute (and bad) things you do Reinforce how much I love you
When I hold you in my arms now Hugging you and thinking of how Very soon you'll be twice this size With thrice my love, sweet Sammy eyes
...Ohmygawd, I can't believe I used the word "thrice" - help me!!!!"
"Twice this size" was a *VERY* big underestimate!!!!!!!

There's a dog at the liquor store; she's a very pretty 9 year old English shepard who just wags her entire hind end when you walk in the door and pat her head. So sweet! The owner says she likes (not to eat) kitties, too. I think he was hitting on me. (laugh)

Have you ever gone shopping with your Mommy? It's really, really fun, but maybe just girl cats like it.
What have you been doing lately? Have you been in your garden hunting? All I ever get to hung is pretend mice and birds, but I hunt and kill them really well.
Hugs,
Sammy (Mommy's wrote this for me)

Thank you so much for your e-letter.
No, my Dad (I have no Mom, just a Granny but she's frail now and can't walk much, although no 2-foots are talented in that area) doesn't think I like going in the car much so he doesn't drive me anywhere at all interesting. Anyway, all the good shops with lovely foodies in them are legally off limits to us 4-foots.
But I do take Dad for walks in the village which surrounds our house. I really enjoy meeting the other hoomins and accepting their modest tributes of praise and scritches, and sometimes there are d-pets to be glared at and made afraid: very, very afraid. Sadly it's winter here and it lasts a _very_ long time. I keep looking out of the door to see if spring has sprung but it never has, even though many of the pretty flowers are already out. Bad eating, but they often conceal prey and with my huge paws I'm good at flattening prey!
So I hope you'll talk sternly to your Mommy about taking you out to where you can fulfil your destiny of prey-slaughtering and world domination. Together we can be kind and queen over all.
Purrs for now,
Love

How I wish you would bite and scratch the "banners" - all the politicians and Health & Safety people - but there are such a LOT of them I'm afraid it'd be impossible. We regal cats have more important things to do, don't we?
>> I keep looking out of the door to see if >> spring has sprung but it never has, even though many of the pretty [quoted text clipped - 5 lines] > some of your prey sometimes (or at least the parts you don't eat > yourself). I think the delays inherent in the Hoomin postal system would mean the prey parts getting terribly old & smelly by the time they reached you. They might even be bad and hurt your tummy. And sending via the Mothership prolly wouldn't work either 'cos the best bits would all get stole an' eaten up in transit. So I suggest you work more on Mommy: she must have weakened a lot by now with all the blood you've had out of her ankles.
> Mommy won't let me outside at all unless I am on my halter and leash. > I > think she's afraid I'll hurt somebody if she let's me out on my own. That's the case with me, too. When I forced my escape one time I marched off down the middle of the lane, which Dad thinks mean I'll lose out in a collision with the evil Vee-Hickles, or Kaaas. And there are other smaller felines around here who've been cheeky to me in the past and Dad knows I'd slaughter them out of hand if I had the chance. So 9-yard extending lead & harness are my lot, too :-((
> I already own the whole world (OK, except for the parts owned by a few > other > kitties) and Bandit says she is the queen of the universe, but I think > I'm > probably at least a princess. Any you are my handsome prince!!! Thank you, my sweet, we Maines are certainly regal, which is as near royal as our sturdy nonconformist Republican (in the sense of anti-Royalist privilege etc.) ancestry permits. And by the time you're fully grown even your Bandit will have to give you respect. My own Bandit, who was an adult when I arrived in my forever home as a 4-month old Kitlet, bossed me around for a couple of years, but once I'd saved him a few times from marauding Tomcats and d-things when we were in the Out the balance of power changed. Now I'm equal head cat In and topcat Out. As I'm sure you will be too, one day.
I shan't say too much about the aggressive chubby Hoolikitten I have to put up with, but recently he was Out and spotted an oncoming Springer Spaniel: he ran In very fast indeed, I can tell you! This is a sedate d-thing I can stare down with ease, so I now know who's the real topcat in these parts.
Let's talk again soon. My Dad says we'll have Broadband (whatever that is) in 5 months' time and can then exchange pictures and even movies. Won't that be fun?

CatNipped - 28 Jan 2005 20:18 GMT Hi Pericles!
Mommy's been sick with the flew (although I've been watching her closely and haven't seen her fly anywhere - mostly she just sits and moans). So she hasn't been posting much here, but as soon as the mothership informed me of your communication I made her write back to you.
I got Mommy to put your picture on the warm (but hard) kitty perch on her desk. Here are some pictures of you looking at me lovingly (or so I imagine when I look back at your picture):

Yes, of course, but biting and scratching *are* my favorite things to do, so if you know of a few hoomins that could use it, just let me know and I'll sharpen my claws in preparation!

[quoted text clipped - 3 lines] > must have weakened a lot by now with all the blood you've had out of her > ankles. Oh. Mommy says I eat too much anyway, but I don't think so. I'm only 15 pounds and I'm still growing. You'd think someone that weighs about a hunnert million pounds like her would not talk about some else's figure!!! I do like to try new cuisine, but Mommy said that when I ate a part of her scrub pad last night that I went too far in my gourmand adventures.
Mommy never slows down, she says she has something like ABCD, but what the alphabet has to do with why she's always dashing around the house, I don't know! And she has lots more blood that I need to draw occasionally - like I said she must weigh a hunnert million pounds, she's so huge!
> That's the case with me, too. When I forced my escape one time I marched > off down the middle of the lane, which Dad thinks mean I'll lose out in > a collision with the evil Vee-Hickles, or Kaaas. So 9-yard > extending lead & harness are my lot, too :-(( Oooooo, you are *SO* brave! I'm very brave too (I'm the only kitty in the house who will not only go near Bandit, but will actually jump on top of her), but even I wouldn't try to win out in a collision with a Vee-Hickle. Mommy puts me in our Vee-Hickle, a truck, all the time to take me shopping, and it's *big* - even much bigger than Mommy (who, as I mentioned must weigh a hunnert million pounds!) [*OK* Sammy, that's enough with the weight, or I stop taking dictation!! ~ CatNipped] Hehehehe!
Anyway, just 'cause Mommy is so much bigger than me, (like I said, she must weigh, er, um, well) she bully's me and won't let me go outside even in the backyard which has a way high fence to keep out those Vee-Hickles - but doesn't keep out straight kitties (although why Mommy guesses at their sexual orientation, I don't know, they could be gay kitties for all she knows). [That's *stray* kitties, Sammy! ~ CatNipped]
As I said before, I think it's just that Mommy's scared I'll take over an unsuspecting world if she let's me at 'em.

However, Bandit once beat up a 50 pound pit bull d*g and chased him home bleeding when she was just 8 weeks old and only weighed about a pound, so I don't think I'm going to challenge her reign any time soon - she's stone cold crazy!!

Puppy d*gs aren't very scary, when I had my pictures taken with Sandy Paws at PetsMart a big ole germy shepperd barked at me, but I hissed in his face and tried to swat his nose!

Mommy has a cable mold-them (my Mommy and Daddy have a land in their house, although I think they have it backwards and their house is *in* the land), and she can upload pictures and movies of me really, really fast. Mommy takes so many pictures and movies of me I feel like I'm being hounded by the pappa ratsy!

Exocat - 31 Jan 2005 18:04 GMT LO my dear Sammy
Thank you so much for your letter.
> Mommy's been sick with the flew (although I've been watching her > closely and > haven't seen her fly anywhere - mostly she just sits and moans). We're sorry to hear this. Dad, who has "a bit of a code", sez he hopes your Mommy gets well soon, and we all hope you'll be a good nurse to her 'cos however inadequate these hoomins are as our slaves they're all we've got and we need to cherish them to keep the supply of food, treats, cuddles, play & health going.

Here are some pictures of you looking at me lovingly (or so I > imagine > when I look back at your picture): > http://www.possibleplaces.com/SammysBoyfriend/ That is SO adorable! Of course, I was just 2 when that picture was taken and I'm 6 now - there's a 6th birthday picture Dad took of me which you should probably have too. It's on my website but I can have him send it to you by e-mail if you'd prefer.
> Yes, of course, but biting and scratching *are* my favorite things to > do, so > if you know of a few hoomins that could use it, just let me know and > I'll > sharpen my claws in preparation! I'm a pretty tolerant fellow, so I'll take a raincheck if that's OK. If someone really P's me off I'll let you know, you can teleport over when hoomins aren't watching and we can sink our giant claws into them together.
> Oh. Mommy says I eat too much anyway, but I don't think so. I'm only > 15 > pounds and I'm still growing. Muscle weighs more than fat so as long as you're in good shape keep growing! I'm a very lean boy - Dad asked TED if I had any problems but they said no - and have settled at around 12 lbs myself. It's more than enough to keep that tubby Hoolikitten under control.
> Oooooo, you are *SO* brave! Keep at her, she has to learn who's the true Royalty in your realm. But steer well clear of those vee-hickles as even the titchy ones can hurt!
> Anyway, just 'cause Mommy is so much bigger than me, (like I said, she > must [quoted text clipped - 6 lines] > she > knows). [That's *stray* kitties, Sammy! ~ CatNipped] Ah, if Mommy had a near-horizontal inward-facing 2 feet of chain-link fence or similar on top of a normal vertical 6-foot or higher fence, you'd have a nice secure outdoor space to call your own. But she might need a better job first, so's to pay for it.
> However, Bandit once beat up a 50 pound pit bull > d*g and chased him home bleeding when she was just 8 weeks old Impressive. But your time will come........

I chased a Labrador/border Collie sheepdog out of my garden last year, but although it was heavy it wasn't as aggressive as one of those Al Sayshuns.
> Oh, your Daddy is going to love Broadband!! I'll bet, but then he'll be pestering me all the time with his clicky-boxy thing which has a nasty bright light on the top. Still, if it brings us closer........

Jessie and I (and sometimes even Demi) chase each other up and down and all around all the time!

I think it shows up my thoughtful nature rather well. When I'm all fired up, though, I look more like this: http://community.webshots.com/photo/94722327/96236105sZAjwS
I was getting ready to cross the shed roof (just behind the fence) to hunt the fast food (winged things) in that tree behind me when the neighbour opened his back door very noisily and scared them all away. I was NOT amused. So not amused I nearly struck him down with lightning bolts from my eyes. Luckily I remembered in time that we're not supposed to have those, its a state secret, so I forebore and pretended it was the reflection from the clickyflashyboxlight instead.
Enjoy!
> I'll have to start minding my manners for you, Mommy > says I'm too rambunksush, but I just think I'm fierce and brave - a > good > hunter even if the only thing to hunt here is Mommy's ankles! What can mere Hoomins know about our behavioural needs? Keep being fierce and brave, you must always be true to yourself.

Not at all, as we're nearly the same acshul size: I too can reach kitchen worktops at 3 feet (0.9m) high. I spend lots of time up there keeping an eye on my food down below so that fat hoolikitten doesn't eat it all up.

That was fun. It sounds a bit complicated for me to picture - we live all on one ground level here, which is a Good Thing 'cos I once fell off an upstairs windowsill after prising open the window to get to the Out and fell onto concrete and broke my tooth. Dad reckons I'm too long to have perfick co-ordination, but what my balance has to do with taking holy orders I haven't sussed out yet.

I tried to lick your face, but the glass was in the way. I can't wait to see movies of you in action!

Ah, smart, quick thinking. I sometimes forget and use the anti-gravity devices that are installed in our paws when my Mommy is looking. Fortunately she just thinks its natural for kittens to shoot straight upwards 4 feet into the air from a standing start (silly hoomin!).
> Enjoy! I did indeed adore, er, enjoy! [She really did lick the monitor trying to lick Pericles' face! ~ CatNipped] Mommy! Quit telling my secrets!!!
> What can mere Hoomins know about our behavioural needs? Keep being > fierce and brave, you must always be true to yourself. Oh yes, hoomins will never determine my behavior. It's up to us to train them well, not the other way around!

> Just so long as you're happy, that's all that matters. I am very, very happy. I enjoy life so much and I take interest in everything around me all the time. I have fun with the most ordinary things, it's a gift I think.
> That was fun. Dad reckons I'm too long to > have perfick co-ordination, but what my balance has to do with taking > holy orders I haven't sussed out yet. Oh, poor Pericles! That sounds very painful, I hope you've recovered. The deck is built in "steps" (Mommy says it's perfectly built for causing someone to break their neck on a dark night) and it has stairs going up to the upper deck. Mommy says you can see pictures of where I live at http://www.PossiblePlaces.com/House/ - the bottom pictures are of the Out in our back yard. The very first one of the back yard shows you the three levels of the deck (actually four if you count the "little" step up behind the chair on the right (Mommy calls it the "tripper").
> That's prolly 'cos you're so young yet. Just wait a year or 2, things'll > change. I hope so. I feel like my spirit and mind mind need to catch up with my body. When I feel as big on the inside as I am on the outside, well, then the whole world needs to watch out!
> Dad will have to work to earn the bread to get a Vidcam for us, then! > The box he has now only does about 15 seconds of low-rez .mov film, > apparently. Can't wait. Mommy says she recommends the JVC Digital CamCorder - it's not very expensive, takes great movies, is very easy to operate, and the movie making software is easy to load and use. She got hers about three years ago (when the technology was still relatively new) for about $400 and the price has gone down since then. With hers you use the tiny little tapes and can transfer the movies directly to the computer (as a video to a DV deck, an mpg, an avi, or a RealPlayer movie) or you can record to a regular-sized video tape through your TV.

It's so nice to see animals out and about in businesses, shopping or working. We have our office cats Ozzy and Tiger, and the other day I went into the florist's and got to meet his new assistant, a four month old Boston Terrier. She very helpfully gnawed on my fingers the whole time I was there. :-)
