New jewelry for the kitties!

When Odessa came to us she had an emerald green collar to match her eyes,
with a little bell and safety clasp, and as she was quite used to it we left
it on her. Then yesterday it occurred to Louie that all the kids should have
some pretty jewelry too, so he went to Petsmart and came back with a dapper
blue one for Stosh, a pretty pink one for ladylike Roxie, and a bright
purple one for rowdy little Brandy.

And then all hell broke loose.

We first tried to dress up Stosh. "Oh, I don't FREAKIN' THINK SO!" he said
in no uncertain terms. He pushed my hands away, kept twisting about and
trying to nip me. We finally got it on him and adjusted, and when we put him
down he retaliated by grabbing my sock and trying to pull it off. when the
claws didn't work he resorted to teeth. He usually refers to me as Mama, but
this time called me Mother... and then concluded with the other half of the
word.

Brandy was whining all the way through. A spoiled child, she has a
well-developed whine and uses it when going for her shots, or when she's not
fed first. She was better than Stosh about getting her collar, but spent the
first hour contorting her fat little self tring to bite the bell off.

Roxie kept trying to run, more because she dislikes restraint than the
collar. But the bell confused her, and she was running in circles trying to
trace the source of the jingle. Like a kitten chases its tail, except she
had this "what the hell...?" look on her face.

Odessa sat calmly to the side, and I swear she was chuckling.

Stosh is now busting his chops trying to walk without jingling. The problem
is that he is somewhat lacking in the grace department, and walks more like
a lumberjack stamping mud off his boots than anything else. Otherwise, the
kids have gotten used to their new finery and look quite fashionable.

Blessed be,
Baha

Yes please.  Kitty & BF have matching silver reflective collars to keep them
safe - hopefully - at night.  In case they go on the road, which is very
quiet, their collar can be seen in headlights.
They don't, much, it's so much nicer "round the back"  Acres and acres of
mousies, rats and birdies.

I have avoided bells since Princess (RB 16) tried to bite hers off.  I
was afraid she would either catch a tooth or swallow the bell.

The clamor has died down, and they're quite their own little selves now.
It's as if we'd never collared them, except for Stosh having the contest
with himself to see how quietly he can walk.

Because we do have a yard with a high fence, we allow them out back with our
supervision, usually when the weather is decent enough that we can actually
enjoy it. they aren't allowed out anywhere but within that fence. I think
Louie figured the bells would warn off any pesky critters that would be dumb
enough to come into the yard with cats roaming about. My area has a
well-documented rat problem.

Blessed be,
Baha

I got Oscar a collar just before we moved to Colorado, and she's almost always
had one since then.  She never had a bell, but her nametag plus her old rabies
tag definitely made her audible.

While Eros was here, I equipped him with a jingly collar and removed Oscar's
so that Oscar could sneak around more easily without alerting Eros, and she
would know where he was.  It did seem to help, although unfortunately it
didn't embolden Oscar enough to leave the bedroom.  But at least she'd leave
the underside of the bed occasionally.

I avoid the bell collars -- I hear Oscar well enough all night long, thanks
very much! -- but I definitely like having Oscar collared, just in case she
escapes.

Since they aren't outside stalking birds, once you've enjoyed their
reaction, you might want to take the bells off.

LOL! I hope the kitties get used to their collars quickly. Then you can add
the next fashion item. ID tags. :o)

They make them in plastic or metal, and they make them in different
shapes. I'm going to order cat-shaped ones for Captain and Stanley. :o)

Last time Persia was at the vet (when I went on a trip and boarded her) she
came home sans her collar.  She apparently was playing and decided to pull
it off over her head.  (She occasionally does this at home.)  It has a tag
on it with her name, my phone number and also states she is micro-chipped.
Dunno why they didn't notice it was missing when they coerced her back into
the Sherpa bag.

<giggling>  Most of mine just ignore their collars, but Sammy still
sometimes gets hers off and runs around the house "naked" - just like a
toddler!
