The beautiful, unbreakable spirit of a kitten

Scarlett seems to be doing ok. She's adjusting to her current
situation, and even seems to be very happy when she gets to come
out of the cage when I get home from work. She is obviously feeling
better because she plays and runs up to Rhett, Shamrock and Bonnie
for some kisses and rubs, and they look at her like she's an alien.
lol They get over it quickly, and Shamrock is even helping to clean
her since she can't do it herself right now. That's our Mr Mom for
ya. Her wound is still draining, but only a little bit now. There's
a chance this could go on until Monday if we get the snowstorm
they're calling for before our appt on Saturday. TED says I can
take the drain out myself if they get snowed out, but I'm not
comfortable with that so it'll wait until Monday if it snows hard.

Here is a pic of Scarlett playing tonight. I had to tape the edge
of the e-collar because she has found a way to reach part of the
drain and already pulled a stitch out, but the plastic was rubbing
her leg all day, apparently. It's a little raw. The tape softens
the rough edges.

Another pic from last night: In this one I'm convinced that the
cone is concentrating the mothership communications, a sort of
radar. She's probably relaying how her good life changed in the
past week. Like, why is she living in a big box? Why does she have
pain? And WTF is this thing on her head??? I'm a little afraid of
the retaliation that's sure to be coming. ;)

Oh, my goodness, you're right.  She *is* communicating with the mothership!
She looks great, though.  It shouldn't take long to get her to communicate
with earthlings once you get rid of that cone.

She is just so darn cute.  Purrs continuing for her to be better soon.

Awww. She looks pretty perky though!

Awwwww, poor baby -- tell her our kitties feel for her and think she should
have extra kitten rations for putting up with that yucky collar.  Hope she
heals quickly and well -- purrs from all of us.

I was thinking as I watched her spirit lift when she got to come out
of the cage, and she almost seemed to smile, that we hoomins could
learn from animals to get joy from the "now" and what we have *now*
and not dwell on the miserable of even a few seconds ago. She's been
very clingy and I'm so glad that she hasn't retreated from her ordeal
with the sickness and pain, and being in a cage. One more full day of
this.

While reading these replies, I couldn't help thinking of the poor little
kitten
that was tortured and thrown on the railway tracks i've already cried my
eyes out over this poor baby, i'll never understand how people, and some
teenagers can be so evil!! it said on the news that, if & when found the
perpetrators
would get at least 2 yrs in gaol, and fined $20.000, thats not good enough
the $20.000 wont get paid anyway, cause they wont have the money, if it
were left to me I'd have a few people and Me stand and throw rocks at 'them
'kick them and run over them with a motor bike because thats what a pushbike
would feel would have felt like to that tiny kitten, and then I would gladly
help to throw THEM onto the railway tracks, failing that they should goal
them and throw away the key, because these are the sort who grow up to be
murderers!!
Sorry but I couldn't help myself I feel so sick thinking about it..

Well said Cheryl, us hoomines could learn alot from our furry little babies. Purrs from the crew that she continues to make her speedy recovery.

Melody (RB) had to wear an e-collar like that for a while. I told her that
they had to put a lampshade on her because she was so bright.

I don't think she bought that line, though. ;o)

Purrs continuing for improvement.  It's no fun with a kid who's feeling
poorly.

Awww.. poor baby!  I missed what happened to her.  I'll have to look through
the posts.  Kittens especially look pitiful with e-collars on :(

Cheryl they really are delightful pictures, and delightful kitties,
how many are there? I counted 4 on the sofa, or chair, but I thought
I could detect another one, how I would like to get among that lot   Jean.P.

Scarlett is a little darling!  We're still sending all-better purrs her
way, and it's good to read she's perked up some.

(I myself am always appalled at how dirty my walls are in flash pics.
Honest, they don't look dirty  in daylight!)

Welcome aboard. I didn't get a chance to reply to your welcome
thread, and well, the group is totally full now so not a chance I
will until next week sometime. lol

Scarlett has the drain tube out now, it's all looking clean, and
she spent lots of time catching up on kitten playtime today. Her
appetite is back and she weighed in at almost 5 lbs so I think
she'll make it. lol I know I tend to make things worse than they
are, but it really seemed that she was slipping away. This is a
tribute to the healing ability of cats. She supervised when I took
the big dog kennel apart and put it back into storage. Rhett chased
her around the house for hours; he clearly missed playing with his
sister. She gets the staples out next weekend and after that, I
hope this is the end of her vet visits until its time for her next
shots.

Thanks you guys.. the purrs worked again.

well as can be expected.  Purrs for a quick and complete recovery.

Good on Scarlett.  It's great hearing about her doing better.
Persephone sends special "get well soon" purrs to her sister in
allergies!

BTW, two years later, there is absolutely no sign of the trauma her
little tummy suffered when she was speyed - she's as fa, um, furry as
she can be!

Tish, did Persephone have a reaction to her spay sutures too? I
haven't seen any cat who had this problem, and I hope it is very
rare!

Yes - pretty-much the same as Scarlett.  Fortunately the vet diagnosed
it correctly very quickly and so we were able to deal with it fairly
easily.  I was afraid that my sweet little babygirl was going to burst
apart along the midriff, but she didn't and today she is absolutely
fine.  For what it's worth, it *is* very rare.  You and your vet will
have to note it if she ever needs stitches again, but that's about
all.  It took nearly a week for the allergic reaction to become
evident with her - about the same as Scarlett.

Wow. I'm so glad that both of our babygirls were helped so quickly.
When I had to start syringe-feeding Scarlett, it was like Shadow
all over again. I freaked, and I wondered after that first vet
visit if she thought I was over-reacting. Thankfully at the
followup she knew it was serious and took care of her. I never
thought there was a possibility to react to stitches. I hope we
don't have to worry about it again, but you never know. I keep
records of everything so if we have to change vets (I hope not!)
I'll make sure they know about this. I tell her that a year from
now she's going to be a fatty like her sisfur Bonnie. Bonnie was a
scrawny runt when she came here, too.

Ha! I know better. When the retaliation comes you'll just be thrilled
that she's well enough to behave like a kitten again.  I know because
when I see Sam chasing Lacey or Hobbes again I think I'm going to open a
bottle of champagne and sit back and just watch.
