I went to take the trash out and found a beautiful adult female cardinal
dead near my back door.  No signs of an animal having got to her or trauma
from flying into something, it appears she simply expired.  (I picked her up
with paper, wrapped her and put her in the trash - no other way to dispose
of her.)  I am lighting a candle to light her flight to the bridge.
Cardinals are such beautiful wild birds.

Very beautiful.  I miss seeing them all the time in Virginia.  (One of the few
things I miss!)

Best wishes for this little bird's journey.

In this area, we have been asked to report if we find dead birds.  I
forget the details, but it has to do with tracking bird diseases.  MLB

West Nile - not known (yet) to affect cardinals.  Blackbirds, grackles and
bluejays, yes.

It affects crows, also. (I live in Philly, where we definitely have had
cases of West Nile Virus. Argh.)

Poor little pretty thing. May she be young and healthy again and
beautifying the Bridge even as we speak.

Poor bird. =o( I agree, cardinals are very beautiful.  Although surviving as
a bright red bird in the wilderness must be a little difficult sometimes.

You'll laugh a little. Originally, I had misread the subject line of this
thread to read "Purrs for a BRIDE." I had wondered if some poor girl got
left at the altar.
