something's strange ...

Monique Y. Mudama - 11 Jan 2005 18:34 GMT This morning, I found Oscar sprawled out, belly on display, on her fuzzy cat bed. Now, I know that Oscar's belly is purely used as a lure for the unwary, but I couldn't help myself. I reached out and gently skritched her belly a few times before coming to my senses and withdrawing.
The weird thing? She didn't claw. She didn't freak out. She ... let me touch her belly. Her exposed, vulnerable belly!
Something's up.

mlbriggs - 11 Jan 2005 21:52 GMT >> She is probably happy and contented. Congratulations. MLB > > Optimist =P Perhaps. Every time TuTu climbs in my lap for her daily grooming, after a few minutes she turns on her back, belly up, hind legs up and wide for me to give her a complete belly grooming. It can happen, just keep doing what you are doing. MLB PS - she also gives kisses when asked for them.

Her fur is ticked rather than striped and it goes from brown in places to black. She has white around her mouth and under her chin and her whole belly is white medium long hair. She has four white feet. The soles of her back feet are black and she has a racoon tail. She weighs 15 1/2 pounds. I adopted her at Petsmart about 7 years ago when she was about six to eight months old. When she was brought into my home, she took a walk slowly around the place and made herself at home. MLB

I hope sometime somebody will take a digital snap of her so we can see.

She's a very good girl already; at least, she is in my mind.

Mischief - 12 Jan 2005 05:22 GMT I wish I could say the same. When Imp and MIschief so me their belly, they are baiting me.
Cause it's only a mater of time before that cute, fuzzy belly turns into a hand trap!!!
ouch!

The only time Jake shows me his big white fuzzy belly is when he's just starting to wake up (and he wakes up even more slowly than I do, which is saying a lot!). I'm allowed to rub the belly and talk sweet nonsense to him until he's fully conscious, and then he's outta there.

When Stinky came along, and I would find him everywhere, sprawled out on his back with his white belly pointing straight up, cleaning his kitty armpits, I was a bit stunned and very amused. I love the way he flattens out, too, and becomes so broad and long. He looks like an aircraft carrier. ;) The funniest thing is that I can go by him when he's relaxing-- not on his back-- and say "SHOW ME THE BELLY!" Nine out of ten times, if he's awake, he flips right over, giving a tiny little "brrrt! " ;)
Stinky's belly is a major thing with us. ;)

Except ... she let me pet her belly again this morning. I only touched it very briefly, then backed away slowly. I think this may only be acceptable in the morning, when she's stretching after a little nap on her cat bed.
I think someone here mentioned, at some point, that their cat didn't like to be pet until it was something like four years old. I wonder if Oscar's personality is changing as she gets older ..?

She could be slowly shedding defensive behavior she adopted earlier.

It took a very long time for her to overcome her half-feral ways and accept even scritches from hoomins. Now (at 16) she's a little cuddle slut, she will show me her tummy and purr when I pet it, she will settle down on my bosom and fall to sleep when I watch TV, she leans into scritches with her full body weight (luckily she's not a big cat). I'm pretty sure Oscar will mellow with time. Funnily enough, Nikki didn't take long to adopt Frank as her new Mummy. It's just me that she took a longer time to accept.
