I've been a lurker for a couple of years, learning a great deal from
the great folks here.

I'd thought I'd share you a bittersweet experience I had.  2004 was a
difficult year for cats for me.  Last January I lost my cat, Oliver, to
cancer and in September, I had to put down Amanda, who had a brain
tumor.

After Amanda, I threw away the litter boxes and gave away all of the
food.  No more cats, I said.  I travel a lot and will probably be
moving to Africa by the end of the year.

Two weeks after I put amanda down, I hear a cry at my door.  It was a
Tuesday morning around 5:30, pouring rain.  I open my back door and
this beautiful cat walked in like he owned the joint, which I found out
he eventually will!  At that point I just thought he was a community
cat, which was fine,, he can come to visit for a while and them move
on.

During one of his visits, I noticed he had a bite wound on his face.
Upon further inspection, I noticed that he had no front claws!  At that
point, since I've seen him for a couple of weeks and nobody had claimed
him, I declared that Nomar Katz would be mine, and rushed him to the
vet.  He's doing great now.  I'm convinced that Amanda sent him to me.

He was very defensive when I first adopted him, I tend to believe that
if somebody let a cat out with no claws, they weren't very kind to him.

He's got the softest fur, like a rabbit, and sleeps in my arms at
night.  Once I figure out how to use my camera with this new computer,
I'll have pictures of my new owner.

I love that he & I share a name ;o) He sounds like a sweetie.

Yeesh. It took this post for me to "get" his name! (Which is really
wonderful.)

There's no such thing as no more cats. Nature abhors a vacuum and will
always send you another cat to fill it up.
Welcome to the group from me and my four furry pals!

I'm so sorry to hear of the loss of Oliver and Amanda.  Your story of Nomar
<G> sounds like my Persia, who came to me 4 years ago today!

Persia was about 2 years old (the vet guessed based on her teeth), had been
front declawed and was running around loose outside.  She just sort of
demanded I let her in.  I did try to find her owners but there were none to
be found.  More the better for her!  And now for your Nomar :)

Congratulations and welcome to the group.  Can't wait to see some photos!

It's so easy to say, and then one of them just steals your heart.
Thank you for sharing that lovely story!  It'll be nice to have
another person to trade kitty stories with.  Welcome!

Hi and welcome! I'm so sorry to hear 2004 was such a hard year for you and
your kitties. It is very kind of you to welcome Nomar Katz into your home
and that you take such good care of him, being declawed, poor baby!
Very much looking forward to the pics,

Welcome to the land of posting :-)

I'm so sorry for the loss of your beloved ones.

But what a wonderful entrance for "Nomar" :-)  Sounds like he knew
where he wanted to be.  May you have many happy years with him.

Purrs being sent that you will have a happy life together.  What have you
named him?   Nomar spelled backward equals Ramon.    Congratulations.

Welcome to active posting, though you must not feel like a newcomer since
you've been lurking for a few years (ohmygawd, I *WISH* I could be that
restrained - LOL)!

I'm sorry about your kitties who traveled to the bridge this year - that
hurts so bad, purrs for your healing heart (though I'm sure Nomar Katz has
helped a lot already).

Bandit picked us the same way.  I opened the door one day and this little
6-week-old kitten came running inside and wouldn't leave!!

Hugs,

What a wonderful tale. I'm sure Amanda did send Nomare to you, just to make
sure you weren't straying to far from the Mothership :-)

Great name, too.

Purrs and sympathy for your loss, Lorie.  And welcome to Normar Katz in
adopting you and taking over raising you properly.  I'm pleased to
welcome you out of lurking mode and hope that you'll be posting more
often.  We can always use another good friend and family member.

Sorry to hear that you lost two loved ones in '04, but happy to
welcome you now that you've delurked. And the girls want to welcome
Nomar Katz (great name by the way)

Congratulations on your new owner. I still get very upset when I hear of
a cat being declawed, I wish it were illegal everywhere but I'm glad it
is illegal in many countries.

Thanks!  I have to admit, though that I used to not have a problem with
declawing, but when I found out that it was in fact an amputation, I
quickly changed my mind on that.  Now I tell everybody who is thinking
about that mutilation

What a cute name! It makes him sound like the kind of college professor who
has wild hair, smokes a pipe and wears tweed jackets with leather patches
at the elbows. "Ja, und now ve vill to discuss das rocket-science!"

Congratulations on being adopted. Maybe Amanda did send him to your door,
because she knew you would love and respect him more than those who put him
out with no means of defense.

Blessed be,
Baha
