When my sister died her son and his wife took Billy Boy to live with
them. They all adored him, particularly little 7-year-old Samantha who
lives with them also. Lois bred Billy Boy and he was a beautiful lilac
Burmese.
To-day he was run over. They didn't stop but left him on the side of
the road in front of my nephew's house still alive and badly hurt.
Don't you hate people like that. My sister's son found him and took him
to the vet but he was too damaged for them to do anything for him. He
has now gone to RB and is buried in a lovely part of their garden.
They are all crying for him, particularly little Samantha who had taken
him to school on pet day. They were so careful with Billy Boy, he was
locked up at night and they lived in a very quiet, beautiful area.
Please say a prayer for Billy Boy (tears).

A small furry object jumped in front of my car at 2AM on a deserted farm
road. I searched the area for a while, but never did find the animal.
I suspect it was just well enough to crawl away somewhere to die.
In any case, this was not a large animal, and yet I most certainly felt
the bump, and there was blood on my bumper and a patch of paint missing
from the impact.
The person most certainly did feel it. It certainly was their fault if
they did not at least try to find the cat, who apparently hadn't managed
to get very far at all. And if they'd found the cat, it's possible he'd
still be alive.
If a person is so unalert as to be unable to tell that they just ran over
something, they should not be driving.

I have mentioned this before but cats in New Zealand are usually outside
both day and night. And you can't be sure that the person that hit him
didn't know!! There are loonies around that like running over cats
and do it deliberately My nephew told me of a story about this young
man who had a savage dog and sent the dog after this old woman's cat.
The dog killed it and the young man had a lot of fun watching the old
woman searching for her pet for days, grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

My parents had a silver tabby cat, Tinkerbelle, from 1976 until she
disappeared in 1991 (we suspect a hawk may have caught her). They
let her have one litter of kittens before having her spayed. One of
the kittens was injured badly enough by a large dog that it had to be
put down. We got back from a visit to church, and one of our
neighbors came over, quite upset. He had seen a middle-aged woman
walk down our driveway to the back of our house, and hold her dog on
its leash while it chewed up one of our kittens. His description
made it sound like the dog had been on its leash the entire time,
but, given that the rest of the cat family made it up a tree to
safety, I suspect that the dog had pulled its leash out of its
owner's hands, and she then caught up with the dog. At any rate, the
kitten, about one month old, had to be euthanized, and the dog-owner
never contacted us to apologize, so we never knew whom she had been.

I once hit a squirrel on the highway [I did try as best I could to
avoid the little guy, but he seemed to be *trying* to get under my
tires]. If a *squirrel* can produce a very noticeable "bump"
sound/feel, a cat sure would! Chances are the self-absorbed moron who
did this had a phone glued to his/her head.

I mentioned to Rosemary the story of RB. I don't seem to have a copy
of it and wondered if someone would be kind enough to post the poem for
her and Samantha. Thanks.
Incidentally, if Rosemary does get two of Lois's kittens later on there
are bound to be some tall tales of two new hoolikittens :)

Thank you for the purrs and prayers for Billy Boy and his family I will
pass them on. Later on Rosemary (Billy boy's main slave) says she
would like to get two more Burmese kittens from Lois. I told her she
would be in a great deal of trouble, :) but she said if they were
anything like beloved Bill Boy she wouldn't mind!!

I'd like you all to know that Rosemary and Samantha have read your
replies and it has touched them deeply that you care. I helped them to
download newsgroups and they haven't ventured a reply as yet, but
perhaps they will when they get more certain of how to go about it. I
think it has helped little Samantha a lot. Her friend has gone and she
must feel that the bottom has dropped out of her world. Thank you.

Bev I am so sorry for you all, I agree that is terribleI saw that happen
to a little girl once, I was going to work when she came out to go to
school,
and found her cat dead on the Rd, just near her house, I had to pick it up
for her and take it in to her mother for her as she was too upset to do
anything.
thats how I found my own cat Zac too, a beautifully bred, but wild cat,
it shattered me so what would it do to a child ? Purrs for Billy-Boy's
passage to the R.B. and for the heartache you all feel. Jean.P.
