Of course, that doesn't mean some of them aren't ambulance-chasing scum.
Did you notice the defendants look remarkably similar? What I would call (no offense to anyone) 'Bubba' types down here in the southern U.S. I suppose someone has to defend them; they didn't have the balls to stand up and say, "No, I won't shoot a cat."

What a scum. I hope this fellow makes it onto my lawn. In New York, we're allowed to shoot stray humans that trespass our home property. I'll just settle for a good, old-fashioned ass-whupping. Shooting stray animals *will* get us arrested... "since the time of the formation of the state."

Yeah, here in Houston you can shoot stray humans on your property too - however, who would ever classify this scum as "human"???
My favorite lawyer joke:
Question: Whats the difference between a rooster and a lawyer? Answer: A rooster clucks defiance.
(You might need to read this out loud to "get it").

Well, is there or is there not a felony law against badly wounding an animal and leaving it to suffer?? (The first day) How could charges be dropped??

Karen - 05 Jan 2005 15:55 GMT I'm sorry, but if you wound an animal, let it suffer over night and then finish the job the next day that is animal cruelty. Hell, even hunters would consider that cruel. You DON'T do that.

Yes, it is legal to kill stray animals on your property but you must kill them humanely. It is legal but it sure isn't ethical. He should have set a hav-a-hart trap then taken the animal to a no-kill shelter. How do you know that's not someone's lost pet anyway.

My thoughts, exactly. At no time were the defendants ever instructed to "kill the cat." they were told to "get rid of it," and assumed that meant to kill it. To let the poor animal suffer overnight, and then repeatedly shoot a terrified, wounded animal to death WAS cruel.

> http://www.theindychannel.com/news/4048909/detail.html Just to point out the obvious, the lawyer was hired to defend the two. And he rightly pointed out that it is legal in that state to shoot stray animals. You may not approve of the actions of the defendants, but the lawyer was right in what he said. You should also note that they will be charged with animal cruelty. Don't get mad at the lawyers because they defend people, that is their job. And don't get mad at them because the laws aren't what you want them to be. Get the laws changed. I am very interested in human rights, as we all should be. And I find it very annoying when police arrest, and prosecutors decide to prosecute someone, based not on the law but on what they want the law to be. This seems to happen with fair regularity. I am not defending the actions of the two, they are obviously scum. But, they should be charged with laws they actually broke, not with what we wish. And I can't help but wonder about all that was left out of the news article. It is not illegal to kill a stray animal on your property, but how does that change being charged with animal cruelty? Why not Felony Cruelty charges? Finally, while it seems like Wally's world is doing the right thing by firing everyone, remember that they hire people who are willing to work for minimum wage. You do not always get the best and the brightest at that price.

People who make a lot of money are no more likely to be the "best" than those who make little, and I've seen heaps of evidence to suggest that they're no more likely to be bright, either. In fact, it's not even clear to me that folks at well- paying jobs are any more motivated to perform well than are those at poorly-paid jobs.
This must really be bugging me, lately. I met with my doctor today and we were discussing a particular type of medication. She asked me if I knew which brands my insurance company preferred. I told her that it didn't really matter, as I wanted the brand that worked best for me, not the cheapest. She said that attitude was good (and rare) to hear. I wasn't comfortable with the praise, pointing out that I am simply fortunate enough to be able to afford to make that decision. Others aren't.
More and more, I think that I am fortunate, rather than exceptionally gifted. And more and more, I realize that any gifts I might have can be attributed as much to luck (good genes, right place right time) as to anything else.

The animal cruelty charges were dropped. THAT is not good. Shooting a cat and letting it then suffer for an entire day, then shooting it until it died the next day is cruelty.

As a police officer of 20 years I take offense to this statement. I am a strong believer of people's rights whether they be victim's rights or suspect's rights. I have never arrested someone outside of the law just because I felt the law should be different. I find it very annoying when someone like you makes a statement like this that lumps us all together. Maybe one day when you home is broken into, or God forbid, a family member is assaulted or killed, you will have a need for the police and prosecutors to go after these suspects. In your case and your case only, I hope the suspect walks free, Dick.

Regardless, there's no reason for you to resort to insults.

It does look like a blanket statement, and a sensitive person could become upset by it. I ignored it and refused to reply, but I wasn't too thrilled by it either and I'm not a member of the police force or related to one.
Pam S. trying to be fair.

Or when they start adding charges on just to add charges. Or when they attempt to seize some property without a warrant, or search someone's house or property without warrants. It happens, and we should all be aware of it happening, and be outraged when it does. I have great respect for law enforcment in general, but sometimes the police go too far. I am sorry that you don't like to face the facts, but that is reality.
