Eros was adopted!!!!

I noticed today that Eros wasn't on the shelter's website anymore, so I
called.  Sure enough, he was adopted on the 26th!

I am feeling so many things right now.  Sheer joy that he found a home.  Fear
that his new family could turn out to be awful.  Sorrow that I won't ever see
him again.  Regret that I didn't ever get around to writing a letter to the
new owners, which I meant to do, that would describe his favorite toys but
most importantly *cough* mention my phone number in case they, um, wanted to
ask questions.

Wow.  Tears are coming and I can't tell if they're joyful or sad.  Never again
to see Eros.  But he has a home now!

I guess it's true what they say; you never stop worrying about your kids.

Awwww. I'm glad he got a Christmas home and I bet it is a nice one since the
shelter seems to be pretty cat friendly.

If you wrote one know, don't you think the shelter would forward it?
Who knows -- maybe his new servants live near you and might welcome
visits.

I'm sure his new family will be wonderful.  Most people who adopt an adult
cat as opposed to a kitten are cat savvy, and not just looking for a
Christmas toy.  Purrs that Eros will have a long, healthy life in his new
forever home.

Also, Eros' eye got particularly gunky in the last week, and the adopters had
to sign a notice that they understand he has an eye problem that will need
constant monitoring.  I don't think ignorant people would adopt an animal with
a known condition, no matter how benign.

Yes, I think you're right.  At least, it will be better for my sanity if I
believe it =)

I am so pleased both for Eros and you that he has a new foreverhome with
people that could see past his goopy eye.  That should tell you something
about them.

I feel the same way every time I take a stray/rescue into a shelter,
and when I find they've been adopted (I usually check until I find out
they are).

Sending great clouds of white light around Eros that he has found a
wonderful, loving home where he will live a very long and happy life.

Thank you.  It makes me so happy to think of him with a family.  He's such a
lovebug.  He needs people.

YAY!!! I'm sure he's found a wonderful home.  You might see if the shelter
would forward a note from you to Eros' new family.  Look upon this as a
holiday blessing for the sweet kitty.

I'm happy for him that he has a new home.  Purrs that it is a good one.
Purrs for you, too.  I know it hurts.  You did you best for him.

I have a suggestion.  Maybe you could write your letter anyway, and ask the
shelter to forward it to the people?  They must have a record of who adopted
him.

I did ask about this while on the phone about other stuff, and they agreed
they could forward a letter.  Now I just have to figure out what to say!

Suggestion:
Dear New Owners of Eros

You have no idea how much I loved this cat, and how difficult it was for me
to give him up.
The reason was ................

If I could send you a letter about his likes and dislikes, I'd like to do so
so he can be happy with you.
I will always miss him, it was hard for me to give him up, and if it would
be possible to see him, I'd love to, but if it's not possible, I'll
understand    etc etc etc and variations//

Something like that.  I'm going to try very hard to wordsmith it so I don't
sound like an overprotective mommy who's going to fret about everything they
do.  After all, they adopted him; he's not my cat now.  I don't want to give
them a sob story, but I do want to hear about him now and then.

Well, then, just write that. "Hi. Eros used to live with me. He likes xx and
xx and xx. I found this and that, yada yada. I really love him and he is a
sweet cat. I would love to hear how he is doing from time to time if  you
were interested in writing to me for him."

That's the plan.  Somehow it's harder than it sounds.  I'm the same person
who will avoid writing a card to my German grandmother for months on end
because I'm afraid my German will sound all lame.  And when sending email to
someone with whom I don't have a long-standing history, I can take hours
perfecting the language.

The more important the content is to me, the harder it is to just jot a note.

Yippee!!!!!!! I had a feeling reading one of your most recent posts that your baby
would have a new home soon. Someone's got a beautiful new kitty for Christmas!

The shelter should be able to forward a message to the new parents, or even
arrange to pass on your number. I'm in regular contact with our Brandy's
foster-mama, who is always hungry for updates on her favorite baby.

Blessed be,
Baha

Excellent news, but I understand that it is bittersweet for you. Hope
you can get contact with his new family and get updates now and then. If
they're good catpeople, they should understand.

Thanks =) I really am happy for him, more than anything else.  He was getting
kind of pathetic-looking after a month in the shelter, even though they were
