I'm just halfway through reading the "America bashing" threads, y'all
can really argue a point! :)
Anyhow, all that talk about how much one loves one's country made me
remember a quote by a famous Spanish (as in, from Spain) author who said:
"Nationalism is a disease that is cured by traveling"
Now wait, don't immediately react saying that could only come from some
ungrateful, self-hating spaniard. Think about it.
I love many things of my home country, Mexico. I also hate a lot of
things about it. I love a lot of things about my adoptive country, the
USA. I also hate a lot of things about it. I love a lot of things about
the many countries I've visited and I'm sure that if I visited long
enough, I'd find things I hate as well.
I guess the bottomline, for me at least, is that we're all human and we
should look at each other as such, before putting on labels to divide
us. I hope that one day we can all claim to be Citizens of the Earth and
be done with that.

Amen, Victor.  When it comes right down to it, we all bleed red and we all
feel hurt and sorrow no matter what country we happen to be born in.

I *so* agree with you, Victor!  If we can't travel to other countries, I
think a cure could be found by participating in international newsgroups
such as this with open minds.

They got me thinking that they should elect a woman for President. Then her
husband would be called First Lady and everyone would wonder how he would
decorate the White House.

Well said, Victor. I agree whole-heartedly.

A-MEN TO THAT!

(After all, our masters recognize no national boundaries of any kind, so
why should we presume to do so?)

As was recently so well pointed out in a discussion on Africa, borders
are mere artificial hoomin things. Ask any astronaut/cosmonaut who's
been "up there" of where he considers him/herself a citizen: "the World"
is the usual reply IIRC.

The terrible Asian earthquake/tsunami disaster (counting the missing as
well as the already-know dead gets to over a quarter of a million
people, never mind the injured and destitute) reminds me with an awful
power of how close we all are as a species. I note with delight that
huge individual donations have shamed my UK government amongs others
(USA included) to massively increase their own pledges. May this
terrible event serve at least to bring us closer together.

Universal purrs to all

Gordon & the TT (world citizens and proud to declare it)
