I would to introduce Helen, my cat-mad friend, to the group.    She has
bought a computer and I have just downloaded newsgroups.   Naturally,
rec.pets.cats.... was the first in line to subscribe to.    Helen has a much
loved kitty called Minnie (a black and white girl).

Helen will lurk for a while and then learn how to reply.

Welcome to the family, Helen.  My name is Julie and live in Stone
Mountain, Georgia (USA) which is in the Southeast about 10 miles from
Atlanta, GA.  I live with my DH and our feline family that consists of a
7 y/o portly orange tabby male, a 7 y/o shy godess who is a silver and
white dlh, a teenage terror of a calico and a 6 y/o "old man" silver
tabby who joined the family in September.  I look forward to learning
about you and Minnie in future posts.

G'Day Helen from the East Coast of the West Island :-)

I'm Yowie, and my DH, Joel, and 9 month old son, Cary (also known as The
Yowlet), graciously allow me to be owned by Shmoggleberry, a 14 yo grey
ticked tabby b*st*rd c*t, Fluffy the happy but gormless d*g, and Itty Bitty
Kitty Fergus, an approximately 7 week old black kitten I found at work.

My cat Annabell,  who had her kittens on Boxing day,  is happily rearing 4
of them.  Sadly 2 tiny ones did not make it,  but the remaining 4 are doing
well.  There are 2 Oriental long hairs,  sometimes known as Javanese.  One
blue tabby,  and one lilac tabby,  the others are Balinese,  colours not yet
determined.

I was worried about Annabell's abilities as a mother,  she had one kitten in
her first litter,  she lost interest in her,  so she was fostered to another
cat.  Her second litter was bigger,  but she did not care for them,  and
dragged them about until they died.  I have sometimes had this experience in
the past,  it is caused by a hormone imbalance and occasionally happens in
her line.  As I did not have a foster mother available at the time ( one
cannot always arrange this ) I had alerted my vet,  and he had supplied the
tiny dose of hormone to use if needed.  Within a couple of hours she had
settled down,  in the bathroom instead of the usual kitten pen,  and I did
not need to call my vet out on a holiday.

Could I please have purrs for the continued progress of  the little family ?

Purrs for your little family. I'd love to pictures, especially after they start
toddling around. I read something interesting about Balinese, you probably
already know this. But it said the breed was named after the graceful Balinese
dancers.

Purrs otw!

By the way, it's a lot easier for me to read posts if new topics are started
with a new post, not a reply to an existing post.  Even with a different
subject line, a lot of clients keep replies in the thread.

Hi Helen and Minnie!  I'm Jill and I live in the Memphis, TN USA area.  I
was adopted by a lovely grey runaway (or dumpee) named Persia in January,
2001.  Can't wait to hear about your lovely girl Minnie.

If there's anything you don't understand in the posts here, please don't
hesitate to ask.  There are a lot of acronyms flying around!

Hi Helen,
I'm glad you joined us if only as a 'lurker'.  There's always room for
someone who likes cats and also likes talking about them.  I hope you
enjoy reading about our cats and ourselves.  I've been around UseNet
(the official name for newsgroups) for years and have yet to meet a
more friendly and supportive group.

You'll get used to the computer in no time.  Just remember, it does
(mostly) what you tell it to do, not what you want it to do.

Hi Helen!

I'm Pam S. in Fayetteville, North Carolina, USA.  My black and white
girl is named Tanada.  We are also owned by QC, a Maine Coon tabby;
Merlin, a White and Tabby fluffy boy; Pine Cone, and adventurous tabby
and white bad boy; and Sgt. Huey a white and orange love ball.

Welcome to the best group of people in the world.  I'm sure that you'll

[friendly wave] Hi, Helen and Minnie. Welcome aboard.

Intro: I'm Seanette, age 35, married, no children. One cat, Felix

hungry on our doorstep]

This is Bev reporting for Helen.   She has read the replies to the post
and says to thank you all and that she loved reading them.   She has
been unwell over the last few days so hasn't been able to do much about
learning to post.   Hopefully she will be OK in a few more days.
Meanwhile she says HAPPY NEW YEAR.
