Eros update (still at shelter)

I visited Eros today; I figured he needed a pre-Christmas visit.

The shelter manager just handed me a condo key; didn't even bother with having
someone let me in or out.  I guess I visit enough that I seem trustworthy =P
This is much better than my last visit, when someone at the front desk claimed
that I couldn't visit him.  (She brought over a supervisor who quickly let me
in.)

I think Eros has lost a bit of weight, but I guess that's no huge surprise.
His "bad" eye was a little goopier than usual, and he sneezed on me juicily
while I was holding him.  The manager says they'll assign him to vet rounds.
Oh, and they've discounted him from $90 to $75.

As for the visit itself: I picked him up and we hugged for many minutes.
Then he insisted on being let down, but quickly made it clear that this
was only to give my hands better skritching access!  In all, I spent
about half an hour snuggling with him one way or another.  He drooled on
me liberally, which I choose to take as a sign of affection.  His
condomate, Squeak, surprised me quite a bit.  Squeak lives on the very
top ledge of the condo, and I've never seen him come down.  In the past,
he hasn't even wanted skritches from me.  Today, though, he actually
meowed at me from above, accepted/encouraged neck skritches, and even
eventually made his way down the ledges to the floor.  Eros sniffed at
him, and Squeak disappeared into a little cat tent.  Still, it's good to
see that Squeak can still warm up a bit!  Poor guy is seven years old.
He should be in his forever home =/  (While waiting in line, I was happy
to overhear that someone's interested in adopting the nine yo German
Shepherd.)

As I locked up the condo, I spoke to a family.  They already have a cat and
are thinking of getting another one, so I told them a bit of what I've learned
around here about introducing cats, and told them to look online for more
info.

Oh!  And one other good thing, though I'm keeping my hopes muffled.  I saw my
hairdresser yesterday, and when I told her about Eros, she told me she's been
thinking about getting another cat!  The trick is to convince her landlord,
who originally said only one.  I get the feeling this is a person, though, not
some big corporate affair, so it may be possible.  Sarah shares a lot of my
views on pet care, and most especially would never declaw a cat, and of course
I see her a lot .... but I'm trying not to get too hopeful.

Hope he gets a home soon. He sounds like he's got a personality that's bound to
charm someone before long. You just never know. Someone may come in today and
take him home. It just takes the right person.

You'd think so, but first they have to ask to see him in person.  Now that
the kitten's out of the condo, Eros is being lazy-cat, sleeping most of the
time.  If you bring him to a "meeting room," he gets distracted by all the
interesting smells, which is why I visit him in his condo, so that he can
focus on me =)  Also, I think his eye might scare a lot of people off.

I hope you're right =) I'd be especially pleased if Sarah adopted him, but as
I said, I'm trying not to get too worked up about it.

I'm even finding myself thinking, "Hrm, Squeak is a very calm cat, he doesn't
bother Eros, maybe Oscar could deal with him ..." but I know that Eric would
be completely against trying to integrate another cat right now ... and he's
probably right.  But still.  Poor old guy =/

Purrs that the landlord is reasonable, and that you friend can adopt Eros.

Thank you.  Apparently, the landlord is allergic to cats, so I guess it
depends on what the renting arrangement is.  If the landlord is in close
proximity, I can understand the restriction.
