I've just rescued a gorgeous little black kitten from work.

S/he's very friendly, and extremely thirsty and hungry. No fleas so far.

My best guess is that s/he is 6 weeks old.

I don't know whether Joel and/or Shmogg will allow us to have another kitty,
and i"m trying to find a home for him/her without resorting to animal
welfare organisations, although the ones I've called so far have been shut
for the holidays.

Please purr for the fate of this little one.

Awwww. Such a baby baby. You can at least keep him/her tucked up and warm
over the holidays and figure out something. Can you get Kitten milk (KMR) at
the pet store over there? At that age probably should be getting that. Poor
wee mite. Purrs for a loving home and a long healthy life.

Congratulations!!! Wow, a new kitten! Your family is growing fast. :)
How has Shmogg reacted? Does he even realize there's a new being in
the house, a *feline* being at that?

How exciting! We'll have to set about helping you name the little
beastie.

I'm still at work! The little kitty is now chowing down on some chicken I
got from the canteen here. Boy is he hungry! Took a good few bites at my
chicken-smothered fingers before he figured out that it was the chicken he
was supposed to be eating and not the bearer of said chicken.  Woo Kim - the
discoverer and a work experience kid - keeps popping in to say hello (I've
got my office door shut so he can't escape) Its totally illegal and against
a gazillion rules to have pets in our office, so I"m truly grateful my boss
isn't here today. But I"m gonna go home early anyway.

I have this suspicion that this little creature's name is Archimedes....

Goodness only knows how Shmogg & Fluff (and Cary for that matter) are going
to react to another cat in the house. Hooboy, life is gonna be interesting
for a while.

I didn't think Joel would turn away IBK. He seems like such a kind and
gentle soul. I can't wait to see pictures of IBK cuddled with Joel.
Archimedes, eh? Archi for short? Raven came to my mind, my
brother-in-law had a black cat named Raven and when I read your post in
my mind I saw a raven and a bear. hmmmm, its late, I'm rambling and
can't figure out why I associate the raven and the bear although a web
search gives indication that the two are linked in in Native American
mythology.

Concatulations on being adopted by IBK and skritches to Joel for opening

The small, mostly black (has a few white hairs on ears and right front paw)
6 week old kitten is settling in.

After dragging the poor guy around in a cardboard box while I completed a
whole bunch of errands (including gettingthe car checked for
re-registration, and buying kitten food at the supermarket), I finally got
home to show Joel.

Joel opened the box and said "Hello Fergus!" Fergus, otherwise known as
IttyBittyKitty(IBK), meowed a silent meow, and promptly went to into a  deep
kitten sleep on Joel's chest. I'm starting to think that Joel's chest should
be marketted for insomnia. Its the favourite place to sleep for Cary, for
Fluffy, for me and even Shmogg when he could be bothered. And you know how
broad Joel is. It was such a sight to see Joel, but tough scarey guy,
smothered in tattos, holding this wee little kitten, smaller than his hand,
agains this bare chest, while the poor exhausted kitten too a well earned
break. (Yes, I'll get pics of this adorable scene just as soon as I get
batteries for my camera)

I mean, it was an exhausting day for IBKFergus, he spent alot of time in my
office being thoroughly illegal. He bit the hand that fed him; it did, after
all, smell like chicken (thats because i was *offering* him some cooked
chicken - I've forgotten just how sharp little kitten teetch can be) before
climbing into the chicken container and chowing down like it was his last
meal. Poor guy was *covered* in chicken bits by the time he was finished.

Whilst IBK and Joel got to know each other better, I went and got a proper
kitten crate so FergusIBK could be safe from small, grabby, 8-month old
barekitten hands, Shmogg and Fluff. Fluff was outside for most of the
evening, and Shmogg spent most of his evening totally oblivious to the
presence of IBKFergus. But towards the end of the evening, we had to let
Fluff in, and she figured out pretty quickly (for Fluffy) that there was a
new catpuppy inthe house and got terribly overexcited like she did when we
brought Cary home.

IBK was not in the least bothered by Fluffy desperately trying to lick him
to death, and continued to go about his business in the kitty crate - he
knows how to each kitten chow, how to lap kitten milk, and how to use the
litter (thank goodness). Fluffy made alot of whimpery noises towards
FergusIBK and FergusIBK, being a cat, ignored her totally. But then Shmogg
had to find out what Fluff was carrying on about and came to investigate.

Shmogg didn't fluff up and do halloween kitty, but did let out a hiss.
Fluffy jumped to IBKFergus's defence and growled at Shmogg. Shmogg, not
appreciating being told off by a mere dog, did what Shmogg always does when
he thinks Fluff has gotten out of line, and whomped Fluff across the nose.
At that point, both forgot all about IBKFergus and decided to sort out their
sibling rivalry with each other. Naturally, it was me who bore the brunt of
it, I have serious claw and teeth marks in both ankles *sigh*. But at least
they left FergusIBK alone after that.

Once the older critters (including Cary) went to bed, we let IBKFergus out
of his crate, and played with him for a bit, before he fell asleep again on
Joel's chest. Somehow, I think FergusIBK will be spending a great deal of
time there.

Futher updates and pics when they become available.

What a sweet update, all of it! You might be surprised about how cats
will react to kittens. Shamrock took to Scarlett and Rhett almost
immediately (he hissed the first few times he met them) and Bonnie
took a bit longer (weeks!) but she never hurt them, actually just ran
from them. Now all 4 are living in harmony and Bonnie even plays with
them. I didn't think she'd adjust so well, so quickly, and she was
the reason I opted for kittens rather than a full grown cat to bring
in when we lost Shadow. She treated her mousey toys like kittens, but
she surprised me when she was so scared of them.

I love the name Fergus. lol IBKFergus is just an adorable name.

Nope, I'm not sure at all. it was just my best guess and the cat-fosterer
lady that leant me the crate said that since eyes were open, ears were up,
eyes are beginning to change colour (they are a sort of grey, not bright
blue), and that he can eat, lap, and use the litter that he was *probably* 6
weeks old. I'll never know his real age. He is utterly tiny though.

Those eyes are pretty unreal.  They look like they belong on some
nocturnal tree-dwelling animal.  Very very cuuute.

OMG - It's a Baby-Weeble-Twin!!!!!!!!!

I just checked Weeb's baby pictures, and the ones where his eyes are
blue-grey-green (and nopt blue any more), and his ears were up and his baby
teeth were coming in VERY quickly (I had started him on his baby mush, which
he eagerly ate, as long as he was hungry), are all dated 4 weeks from the
day I found him - and remember, he was only a day or two old at that time.

Of course, Weebs was a spoiled brat (WAS????? What am I saying???? He stil
is!!!), and had PLENTY food, water, attention & whatnot, so he may have
developed earlier, and IBKFergus (or Fergie, whichever fits) may not have
been so well nurtured early, so his development may be stunted.

I'd say between 4 - 6 weeks, about the same age I gave for the Fearsome
Foursome when I took them in.

Welcome IBK-Fergus. ;o)

Must be a black cat thing to have long and wonderous names on RPCA...

We have

"His Royal Feline Lordship Tiger"
"Waffles, Queen of all she surveys"
"Itty Bitty Kitty Fergus"

Who else?...

Oh, I missed the first part of this, but apparently you are listing black
cats.

She doesn't have a fancy name, but our Cinder is sleek and black like a
panther and has yellow eyes.
She is very camera shy, which is why we are unable to get any photos of her.
All you have to do is point a camera at her, and she's gone.

I've never gotten a satisfactory picture of an all-black cat unless I
used professional lighting equipment, or was extremely lucky with BRIGHT
sunlight. When Clifford (RB) had his eyes closed, and his white tail tip
tucked somewhere, I had enough trouble looking at him, if he were
curled, and figuring out which end was which!

And here I was thinking Solstice, because the little guy discovered her
on the day of the (down under) Summer Solstice.  I suppose she could
