My husband's office has been covering all the bases. Last week they had
a holiday party. Today they all went out to lunch to celebrate the
solstice. They're a nice bunch of people!

And to you too, Ginger-lyn!
I'm going to be curious, so please tell me if I offend or don't care
to reply. What are solstice celebrations/ceremonies like in your
tradition? If you don't care to reply here, private email or even a
link to a semi-accurate URL would be wonderful :)

No offense taken at all :-)
I'm not very traditional -- I'm eclectic. So I tend to mix my
Solstice with Christmas, which considering how much of Christmas is
originally Pagan it doesn't strike me as odd ;-) I decorate a tree,
put out branches of evergreen, do gifts (including the cats, of
course, who were thrilled with their brand-new catnip pillows!), etc.
If inclined, I will do a simple ritual, welcoming back the Sun as it
makes its slow journey towards its height at Summer Solstice. And
food and wine, of course. Many of the decorations on my tree these
days are of stars and suns, although I treasure old ones from my
family that are more Xmas-oriented, too.

Happy happy to you, too, Ginger-lyn. I don't celebrate Solstice as such,
but I am very happy that it's here, because it will start getting
lighter again now. Here in Helsinki the sun was up from 9.24 to 15.13 on
the shortest day.

I'm looking forward to longer days, too! I hate that it's dark by the time I
leave work ... makes me feel like going right to bed when I get home. Skiing
helps, though, since I do get a lot of sun on the weekends.
