Sherry - 03 Jul 2009 03:45 GMT We've all been posting about the same cats for many years now -- I was wondering....how old are these kitties now?
I've also realized my cats are double-digit age now, except Boz & Biskit. Biskit is at least 6 or 7, and Bosley, the "baby" is 6 now.

The good news is, I now live with two very healthy young cats. Hmm, Mir will be 5 in November... not a kitten any more, is she?

How about this - Licky is *6* years old! Remember when he was a 3-month-old kitten, and I asked everyone here to help me name him? Now I'm 6 years older, too, and I feel every minute of it. Meanwhile, Roxy's 11 and Smudge is 12!! It hardly seems that long ago that I took this:

No, doesn't work that way. My dad and his sisters all got together and agreed. Just because their children and grandchildren seemed to be aging at an alarming rate. They still thought and felt like teenagers when they all got together. So they decided that they were.
My only surviving Aunt was a part of this conspiracy and is passing it down to the cousins.
We hit a major life milestone today. Middle grandson had his twentieth birthday. So for the next fourteen months, we are not in any way shape or form responsible for any teenagers.

I never did name him myself. A friend of mine who took pity on the poor boy made it her personal project to name him, and she was the one who suggested Licorice. That was a winner, because it's one of my favorite candies. And it developed into the perfect nickname.

I went to Google translator (I know, I know) and put in "dropje", selected Dutch->English, and got "dropje" as the translation. Yeah, yeah, I know. So then I typed in "licorice" and selected English-> Dutch, which produced "drop". Now we're getting somewhere. I take it that "dropje" is a like a nickname for "drop"?

Wayne Mitchell - 03 Jul 2009 14:02 GMT >See, that's exactly what I mean! I *cannot* believe MirMir is already >5. (Yikes, that >means WE'RE five years older, too!) The curious thing is that 6 years does not always equal 6 years. When I adopted Will and Heidi in 2003, I knew and accepted that Will, at 9 years, was an "older cat". Now, six years later, Will is 15, and not significantly older in my mind than he was then.
But Heidi, who was only two then, is now just a year younger than Will was in 2003. She's about to be the same level of "older cat" as Will was -- and it makes no sense to my mind at all.

---MIKE--- - 03 Jul 2009 14:18 GMT Amber will be 15 in September. She seems healthy but a bit lame. She can still go up and down the stairs (slowly) and "jump" up on my bed. Tiger is 10. I would like to have a younger cat but at my age (79 1/2) there is the chance that Tiger will outlive me. When Amber leaves me I won't "replace" her.

Boyfie is approaching 7. I can be fairly sure as he was not here in Jan 03 when N first visited to help me over my mother's sudden death, but had appeared as a secret sleepover kitty when she came back in April the same year. He was a leggy teenager, I guessed his age at about 8-9 months which would put him as a summer born kitten in 02.
I can't believe he will soon qualify to eat senior food. Surely he is still a babycat!

Somehow that gives me emotional support, thank you. It was not so much that it happened, as my common sense told me I wouldn't have her for very much longer, but the *way* it happened. I am still bitter about it. She would have been basking in the sun with the good weather we're having atm.

That breaks my heart still...after that time when she would only eat roast chicken etc then she went back to cat food I really thought she was going to rally for at least one last summer -------- But she *had* rallied, Lesley. She would have had one last summer. She was murdered (one or two have said that word) because she had a snotty nose and her fur was tatty. She was eating cat food like there was no tomorrow. She had a nasal infection that was challenging my vets, they threw every medication imaginable at her and it was just starting to improve. The evidence was that she was eating as she never could if her nose was blocked and she could not smell her food. Her coat did not look good. She stopped grooming several years ago as very old cats usually do. Even though she had a short coat it got matted. She would only let me pass a brush over her occasionally when she was in the mood and it's not enough. So I used to try and pluck the matts out when she was asleep. If she woke up suddenly sometimes I'd have to jump away so a little more fur came out that I meant otherwise.
If a vet is reading this, please do not put an old "stray" to sleep if she has a cold and a few bare patches in her coat. One of the things I found out from Barrajo was that "she was losing her fur." KFC was not losing her fur at all. It was me. I was plucking her mats out not very expertly because I worried that the mats might be pulling on her skin.
Sometimes I wish that people were not so cynical as to imagine that most people will mistreat and neglect their animals. Most people will not. I'd like to find the person who found KFC. In her own front garden!!! and snatched her up and took her to a vet that could not see past her runny nose, obvious great age and patchy coat. The vet did not see past the RSPCA had funded her for 10 quid or so either. It was just enough money for pay for the injection to put her to sleep.
If I had not had to go into hospital this would never have happened. She would not have been out on the front looking for me and no-one would have picked her up.. It's my fault

You could no way have anticipated this so called "cat rescuer" picking her up and if you had been able to anticipate it- you would have taken action to prevent it I understand what you're saying- I think most of us do it....Why didn't I act when I thought Fugazi looked a bit off colour? Because the next day she appeared to be fine again then two weeks later she took a major turn for the worse and had to be sent over the Bridge just 24 hours after she did take the turn because of cancer.....if I had rushed her to the vet two weeks before would it have made a difference?

> We all wonder if it was our fault in some way..it's understandable but > Tweed...it wasn't your fault Well said. I wonder if self-blame is just a natural part of grieving, though. You know those "stages" of grief that Kubler-Ross came up with? One of them is "bargaining" - if I do this, maybe it won't be true, if I had done that, maybe it would have turned out OK. I think that's about trying, somehow, to get back in control of the situation. Self-blame is part of that.
To think that you could have prevented an unanticipated and somewhat random tragic event gives you the illusion of being in control. Maybe it's easier to think that you slipped and made a mistake, so it's your fault it happened, but at least usually, you're in control of fate. That's what I think the self-blame thing is all about when incomprehensible and horribly painful losses occur. Maybe that's better, even with all the self-recriminations, than accepting that sometimes things just come out of nowhere and blindside us. I think the first thing people do when they encounter a random tragedy is to attempt to restore a sense of order, a world where things make sense.
Anyway, this isn't directed specifically at Tweed, because lots of people do this, including myself. I hate to see people blaming themselves for things that couldn't possibly be their fault, but on the other hand, maybe that's preferable to dealing with the unpredictability of tragedy. It's a lot to take in all at once.

She found me in the winter of 2003 and I thought she was a baby because she was so small, but her body frame hasn't grown since then so I think she's just a runt. I think Karen C's Sugar might be older than Pearl, but I don't remember how old Pearl was when her brother moved and had to give her up.

I have often said that if I could find a single-cat home for Biskit, with an older person in a quiet household, I wouldprobably let her go. She is such a sweet cat, but so timid, and the rest still pick on her from time to time. Has Sham slowed down in his middle-age? He was such a hoot. I still remember the Shamcam.

When I think about it I can't believe I've been here as long as I have. I got Stosh maybe three weeks after Fritzie went to RB, and got Roxie almost a month after Stosh; my first post here was only three or four months after that, when we were fostering Brian and Roxie stole her first piece of ham. Stosh, the scrawny 7-month old Lillte Guy, is now a 6-year old hunk of 18-pound brawn, and Madame Roxie is 8; my Little Baby Brandy (whose arrival I documented on RPCA worse than an expectant mother) is 5, China is 7, Philip the Fella 7, and the old Babcia, Sabrina, will be 11 in November. I've been here 5 years. I can't believe it. I was recommended here by someone named OJ, who I never see post anymore.

Biskit is at least 6 or 7, and >Bosley, the "baby" is 6 now. Ours are still babies... Silver and Scouty are nearly six because they were about six months old when we adopted them right before we got married... and Tessie is about four because she came along a year later and much younger. Half the time she still acts like she thinks she's six months old!

> Sherry It shocks me to realise that His Royal Feline Lordship Tiger is 11 years old this month. It seems only yesterday that he was a scrap of a 3 week old itty bitty kitty. Pandora is 9 years old, which is a shock. Robbie is 14 (where does time go?)
The things the 3 of them have done with their lives... they started their lives in London, they've lived in Belize, lived in the USA, travelled to Scotland and now live in Wales. They've flown between them 50,000 miles on a plane, seen animals they can only dream of and Tiger has faced off a Scorpion and a wild ocelot!
Miss Lily Whiskers is 4 this year. She's the face of Cats Protection Feline Friends National Leaflet campaign for the second year in a row (under the alias "Alice") and her face & kitten pictures are plastered all over Cats Protection leaflets which have been sent out in Your Cat magazine.
Cleo is 7 and just learning that it's safe to go in the garden after 5 years.
And Tara and her brother Riley-Sissorpaws are coming up for their 1st year birthday and are different cats to the ones rescued from a dog- fighting house this time last year. Riley has a particular taste for Coy Carp and the neighbours pet chickens...
I joined RPCA in/around 1998 I think. 11 years. WOW!
