UPDATE to Advice & Purrs

Nina K Pettis - 19 Dec 2004 15:12 GMT Yesterday, Lucas made his way from the kitchen to the bedroom, where the litterbox is located. After using the facilities, he decided to get behind the bed, and that's where he is now. (At his former home, his preferred hiding place was under the bed; this is a platform bed, so there's no "under", but there's a space behind the head of the bed that's just right for a kitty.) We've been able to pet him (loves it!) and give him food and water of his very own, both of which he quickly absorbed. He ventured out into the bedroom with Jake for a few minutes this morning, but Abbie (the d*g) over-reacted and scared them both into flight to the top of the chest of drawers... he's behind the bed again, but still eating.
A few more days should tell the tale. At least Cajun (now Seth) has stopped growling and cursing him; that's got to help!

Christina Websell - 20 Dec 2004 00:32 GMT Many purrs that Lucas will soon feel at home. It's hard for a new kitty to integrate, especially if there is a dog there which he might never have had to cope with before. Scritches to Lucas under the bed.

New update: In the middle of the night, Lucas appeared on the foot of the bed, looking quite comfortable and growling steadily. He stayed for a while and then went back to his cave. Seth sat on the other side of the bed and watched him carefully, but didn't growl! Abbie the d*g was concerned, but nobody was aggressive toward him, and he let me pet him (while he growled, but it was clearly just a warning).
This morning, when I got out of bed, he was trying to get back to the cave, but the hole is too small on that side of the bed; he had to back up and go around... I didn't snicker at him, honest!

I ask because back when Rocky was deciding being petted and scritched was a Good thing he didn't know how to purr, and growled instead. Once he discovered purring, he stopped growling.
