Abandoned Cat

This is so weird. A friend of mine from the shelter was driving down a highway
about 50 miles away and saw a cat carrier sitting on the side of the road. She
thought, wow, that looks like a nice carrier and we could use it at the
shelter.
She stopped to get it, and lo and behold, there was a healthy (but hungry)
black cat inside.
Cat isn't microchipped and has no ID. We think it didn't fall from a vehicle
because it was upright and there is no visible marks on the carrier. The road
is a turnpike, at least 15 miles from the next rest stop. So weird.

Purrs for the kitty. Fate seems to bring a lot of abandoned kittys into your
life. I guess fate knows what its doing.

Wow. That is truly bizarre. Not your typical dump. Poor cat. I sure hope he
finds a good home.

It will. It's a really nice cat and we don't have many cats down there right
now.
BTW, Karen; I was mailing newsletters and had some extras  I sent you one, hope
you don't mind. Thought I'd better tell you so you'll know where it's from.

Awwww!  At least someone thought a person would stop and check it out.  I
suppose this is the most 'caring' abandonment I've ever heard of.  Purrs for
the pretty black kitty.

I don't know about that. That cat was completely powerless - at the
mercy of whomever came along. At least if he was out of the carrier, he
could run away from harm. I mean, I guess being in the box, he wouldn't
get hit by a car, which is good. But it must have been horrible for him
to be confined like that - and who knows for how long? Unless he had a
loud meow, people might have viewed the carrier as roadside junk.

If they did this out of caring, why didn't they bring the kitty to a
shelter, at least?

I wonder if there was some sort of accident involved? Not the carrier
falling out of a car or truck, but... well, frankly, I'm having a hard
time imagining how someone would "accidentally" leave a cat in a
carrier by the side of the road, but I suppose anything is possible.

I'm glad he was found and is still in good health.

Just saw this.  I'm pulling for the accident theory, crazy as it may seem.
The carrier honestly could have landed right-side-up after somehow coming out
of the vehicle.  Stranger things have happened.  And it's just too weird.

Update on the black kitty. He got what seems like a really good home, with an
older lady. She changed his name, I can't recall what. The shelter was calling
him H.E. Bailey. That's the name of the turnpike. Poor cat!

Great news!  And what a mouthful of a name!  I'm not a big fan of name
changes, but in this case I think it was the right decision =)

I renamed my current owner when I got him home from the shelter.
Soldier would have been a quite good name for another cat, most
likely, but it wasn't HIS name, and Felix made that quite plain to me,
along with getting across to me what his name IS. :-)

Felix is a cute name, and it suits him.  Roscoe's new owner changed his name to
Oscar. Now that I think about it, Oscar suits him, too. Maybe he told her!

It's funny. Maybe shelters do better with names for adult cats.  At the
shelter, Mr. Clark was "Buddy Boy", Rhonda was "Murphy", and Ding was
"Jake". The kittens in each litter all had names starting with the same
letter (hmmmm...lettered litters?).

Buddy Boy actually describes his personality rather well, although I
don't think he learned the name.

Yeah... it sounds as if the irresponsible person who abandoned him at LEAST
stopped the car when they ditched him. The poor cat must have been so lonely
and frightened, wondering when his owners were going to come back for him!
Bast, the Cat Goddess must have prompted your friend to drive by there right
then to rescue him. I'm just glad he didn't freeze or starve before he was
found.  May his next home be a happier one where he is appreciated.

It's upsetting to think that someone would do that to a poor precious
little kitty!  It's a good thing it luckily weirdly into a ready-made
rescue.

How horrible to think someone left it there! I'm glad the kitty was

A house is not a home, without a cat.
