This afternoon a bathtub dropped on my head. I was stunned but not knocked
out and have had ice on it since but I don't feel quite right. I'm not up to
driving anywhere and of course it's Friday night so the doc is closed
anyhow. Would appreciate purrs that there won't be any serious consequences
later on.

Many thanks.

Ouch!  I won't ask HOW this happened, but offer purrs your head feels better
soon and that you don't have a concussion or anything.

I'm sure I do have a concussion. I called my doc soon after it happened
because my vision was real blurry. He said I should be under observation for
the next 48 hours because a "berry aneurysm" can develop -- but there's
nobody to "observe" me. Gloria's gone on a kayaking trip and I don't know
anyone else close enough to do me any good.

Could you call 911 (U.S.) and go to the hospital via ambulance?  or even a
taxi?  Did your doctor say anything more?

If you believe you have a concussion.. that is nothing to try to take care
of yourself.  You really need a doctor to look over you.

Purrs coming your way....

He's 4 hours away. I usually don't go to a doctor if I can help it and
haven't bothered with finding a new one since I moved up here in 1999. And I
don't think and ambulance could find my house.

I figure as long as I am able to think and walk, I am not in dire straights.

I don't think there's anything that can be done for a concussion, really,
except rest. Which I am doing.

Many thanks!
Zorin the Lynx - 18 Dec 2004 02:26 GMT
Whoa, whoah.

Wrong. A concussion is serious. Call 911 and get to a hospital IMMEDIATELY.

You could be dead by morning. I don't mean to scare you, but this is NOT
funny stuff and you should be taken care of and in observation right now.

Go go go.

I have to agree here.  If you're having blurry vision, you need to see a
doctor.  Look in the yellow pages for an urgent care center and see if one
is open.  If so, have a taxi take you there.  Otherwise, call and have an
ambulance take you to the emergency room of your nearest hospital.  You need
to be there and okay for Gloria to come back to.

The problem is she lives way in the country. I don't know if driving with
blurry vision is any better. I really wish Gloria was around. Are there any
other neighbors you could call on Pat?
Melissa Houle - 18 Dec 2004 06:27 GMT
I think  you need a doctor, too, Pat.  Being hit over the head with a
bathtub is bigtime stuff. I realize you're in an isolated place, but call
911 anyway, and give the ambulance drivers the clearest directions you
possibly can. I hope you will be okay, and feel better soon, but you need
help now. And DO NOT try to drive yourself to the hospital.

It *is* important to get to a doctor after a blow on the head like
that.  Warm, soothing purrs on the way.

I agree. Go to 911 right away.

Does anyone know where Pat lives, so they can call her?

CALL 911; they will find you.  DO NOT go to sleep!

Jill
Pat - 18 Dec 2004 04:11 GMT
> CALL 911; they will find you.  DO NOT go to sleep!

It's been 6 hours now and I haven't had any other bad symptoms, just a
little blurred sight in the right eye, which is improving hourly.

Nevertheless I did see a doctor! I was amazed to learn from a neighbor that
there is a country clinic less than a mile from my house, believe it or not!
I called there and the doc answered and told me to come right on over. He
examined me and said I should be OK, to go home, take a hot bath (which I
did, at Gloria's) have some hot soup and GO TO SLEEP. Which I will do,
shortly.

Now... QUIT WORRYING but keep purring. I have someone calling me at 5:30
a.m. to make sure I am OK, and if Sherry or some other night owl wants to
call at 3:00 AM that's fine too!

Thanks!

Glad to hear you saw a doctor. We'll keep on purring, and I'm afraid
we'll keep on worrying, too.

I can't believe what happened to you!  I was worried like everyone
else, because a friend's grandfather died last month after he hit his
head.  That was on a Wednesday.  He spent the next few days doing his
usual things around the house, but on the following Monday, his wife
wasn't able to wake him up.

Yeah.   Post at least twice a day for the next fortnight. It isn't necessary
to find an interesting thing to say.  Just say "still alive" or "I'm still
OK" or something.
I will  not say anything to you about not going to hospital  You should
have, and I should have.  We both know this.
Purrs you'll feel better soon.

Yes, please do post at least daily so that we can see that you are
doing OK, and if you notice any new symptoms that could be related to
the injury, at least call your doctor to get his or her advice.  If
you have any brain swelling from the concussion, or any sort of blood
clot, it could heal without complications, or it could rapidly get
worse.  If you have any neighbors that might be willing to drive you
to the hospital, it would be a good idea to talk to them about the
idea in advance, just in case.

Thanks for the update. As us becoming usual for me, I didn't see the
thread early on, so paged down when I saw it and found this update.
Hope to see a new update in the morning saying all is well.

about. Purrs on the way

I can't tell you what to do, but I know that observation by a trained
medical professional is a standard precaution for a head trauma of
this type.  Look in the mirror.  If your pupils are different sizes,
get to an ER.

Vision affected? If any of these - go see a doc *now*.

Ack!  Purrs that you will be okay.  I'm glad you were able to see a
doctor, but I would still get a Catscan done or something to be sure.

I was in a car wreck over 10 years ago, and cracked my head on the
windshield of my car.  Well, my head didn't crack -- the windshield
did!  I was knocked out for a minute or two.  My vision (normally
very, very bad) got much clearer for several days, and then reverted
to normal (I'm guessing there was some slight swelling?).  I did go to
the ER and had a Catscan, and they found nothing..  Eventually, I was
back to normal.  Wishing the same for you.
