Wanna know what we were asked this morning?
If we could have a huge honking family get together at our house on
Christmas Eve, complete with half a dozen kids or better.
*twitches*
And then the person was offended when Jody said "NO".
Bah! I have a rant that could last hours on this one example of both
families.
purrs needed for sanity :)

Purrs and birdy chirps. The request was rather inconsiderate and I for one
wish dirty litter box offerings and birdy crap on the requestor(s).

I fully understand. Half a dozen kids? Holy crap, I'd have my hands full
with just ONE. Which is why I don't want any kids, only kitties; they're
more cuddly and a hell of a lot less expensive. }:)

Double gah. Good for Jody for saying "no." Don't dare feel guilty. Maybe we
should devote a holiday-family-rant thread. I bet we could all contribute.

I KNOW I can contribute. My idiot sister couldn't figure out why I was
upset when her kids carved a dildo out of wood, attached two hacky sacks
at the base and gave it to me for Christmas. Jason was only six months
old at the time and I had no relationship, or expectation of one in the
future. She told me that they just wanted me to have something to
relieve the stress.

Too bad "Everybody Loves Raymond" is in its final year - you'd have
made a terrific writer for the series. You've just described an
episode that was broadcast the other night - except Ray's family
showed up with out being invited. If you'd written it there'd have
been a lot more realism!

I thought if I calmed down and came back to this thread I'd have something
positive to contribute.
But I'm still speechless at the type of thought process that would go into
thinking you needed the added stress of hosting Christmas this year.
All I have are hugs and purrs.

What an incredibly stupid and insensitive suggestion. Purrs and hugs coming
from England for your sanity.
I have read quite a few threads recently about how awful some of you folks
families seem to be.
Oh, I complain a bit that my two brothers don't keep in touch as often as
I'd like - and like Jill - I could be lying dead (like when I fell down the
stairs) for ages before they would discover me.
In reality they both have young families and are very busy with their jobs.
They take me for granted, I suppose.
*However* even if we don't show it much, we are all certain that we love
each other and would never hurt one another deliberately. Thoughtless
things are sometimes said, but that's all they all, thoughtless.
My youngest brother is extremely tactless. He still doesn't realise the
difference between "when are you going?" and "how long do you plan on
staying?" ;-)
But he came out last night as soon as he was home from work, to my rescue,
when I was stuck up at the supermarket with a flat tyre. I had intended to
do it myself. I actually jacked the car up and got the wheel off -
impressive, huh? - but I couldn't get the spare out from underneath although
I tried for half an hour. It's a Citroen and the spare is in a sort of a
metal cage under the back of the car.
I truly cannot understand how your family would even think about doing bad
things to you. I'm lucky, I suppose.
So purrs to everyone with a naff family that they all come good and realise
how important family is.
Although I have dear friends too, that are just as important to me, and have
come up trumps for me when my family were sadly lacking for whatever reason.
"Friends are the family that you choose for yourself."
