I know the object is to stump the AI, but I am always so delighted
when it correctly guesses what I'm thinking with just a few well-placed
questions. Guess I never outgrew my childlike enjoyment of wondering
"How does it DO that?"

I did take a class in artificial intelligence, but I hardly remember
it anymore, and besides, that was in 1982 and I'm sure the field has
changed enormously since then.

It's great, isn't it! It correctly guessed Christmas tree and cucumber
this morning.

How interesting that would be! It must have so many possibilities to
explore...

I ran across something similar to this a few years ago. That "20
Questions" would guess people, both real and fictional.

In the case of the "people 20Q", it was a simple question tree you
worked your way through. Players could also add people to the tree, as
well as questions leading other players to that person.

IIRC, it works backwards of what you'd expect.  It builds an expert system by
associating the answers that people give to the questions with the final
outcome.  The authors probably "seeded" it with some values to start it off.
The more times the game is played, the "smarter" the system gets.

Yes, I do know that. AI "learns" by being used, by gaining more information,
and more connections between its objects.

Still, the AI systems I remember working with 22 years ago weren't very
impressive, even compared to this simple game.

It didn't get my one of "toilet paper" but then again it thought that good
old TP isn't printed and doens't come in a box or pack.
