Christina Websell - 12 Dec 2004 22:19 GMT Over the last few days, my computer has told me I have say, 150 unread posts on rpca and when I go to read them, there are not as many as that, and a little message at the bottom says there are 82 not downloaded. Neither have they seemed as if they want to download each time my computer looks for mails/posts which is about every 5 minutes. Has anyone any idea why this is, and what I might do to put it right, if anything? All these posts I cannot read!! Whatever they are.

Whatever they are. If you are using outlook Epress, change the synchrinisation settings from "new messages" to "all messages".
Otherwise, dunno, sorry.

KellyH - 14 Dec 2004 03:47 GMT OK, I think the ones that are not loaded are the posts that have come in to your news server while you are currently reading the group. I noticed as I was sitting here, mine said 1903 unread, 3 not downloaded. I switched to another ng and then back to this one, and the 3 not downloaded went away. I'm using Outlook Express.

That doesn't seem to work for me. At the moment I have 176 unread, 71 not downloaded since yesterday, left over from the 90-odd. All I can say is, if I don't reply to you, blame my computer, I won't have seen the post.

As a starting point, what software do you use to read the newsgroups (like rpca)? Also, are you using the German newsfeed or some other news service, such as Google?

badwilson - 13 Dec 2004 02:16 GMT If you're using Oulook Express, go to Tools, Options, Read tab and set it to "get 1000 headers at a time" or even more. Also follow Yowie's advice for Synchronization settings. Try synchronizing your NG when you first get online. -- Britta Sandpaper kisses, a cuddle and a purr. Yep, done this now, it was set to 300.

William Hamblen - 15 Dec 2004 03:16 GMT >Has anyone any idea why this is, and what I might do to put it right, if >anything? Probably Outlook figures the article count by subtracting the number it has as the last high water mark from the number the server reports as the high water mark. If there is a gap in the numbering the number of articles actually retrieved will be less.
Real he-men (she-women?) telnet to port 119 of the NNTP server and get their articles unpasteurized. Forget this newsreader nonsense!

If you must stoop to text entry, for this group, the only possible software is UNIX "cat".
