Odessa has lately been playing Tease the Twolegs, the object being to
make us chase her about and earn the right to pet her. She'll let us
give her the briefest stoke, the tiniest head-scratch, and she'll pop
off a few feet away and look back, daring us to follow. It'll turn into
a multi-floor chase, and if Odessa is feeling generous she might let us
sit and pet her or pick her up. I consider it a milestone, because a few
weeks ago she would hardly let us near; also, terrific aerobic exercise
for her deskbound twolegged servants.
But not when Unka Stormin comes over, oh no. Let Sto'Mo' come over and
she lies still on the bed and lets him come over there and have his way
with her, the little tart! She was rolling around temptingly and purring
away, and when I lifted up my jaw from around my ankles where it had
fallen I told him it was a miracle. He says it is his LDS priesthood
coming into the room and calming her down, and who am I to argue? Since
we have one cat who is a Tibetan Buddhist, who is to say Odessa isn't a
little Mormon in a black fur coat?
As for Stosh and Brandy, we figure that they're the most Sikh of the
kitties. They come for prayers and kirtan (hymns) and Louie says their
wrasslin matches resemble a kind of Sikh martial art practiced in the
Punjab; Gatra, I think it's called. If our marriage is a League of
Nations, our home is then a Council of Churches, methinks!
Blessed be,
Baha

Doesn't that just drive you crazy! Smokey, the big mook, used to do
that when our friend Joe would come over. If you've never seen a
twenty pound Russian Blue behave like a tiny kitten tummy-slut, you
can take my word for it that it's a sight to see.

Some folks are like that. They will perform (better or worse) for the
visitors. In my own memory, I was always a bundle of terror when company
came over.

One of the things my boss is involved in is a multinational, multifaith
group aimed at the eradication of global poverty - its basic principle
is that if nations/religious groups actually tried talking to each
other, rather than fighting, the world would go a long way towards
solving a lot of its problems. Sounds like your kitties should apply
for jobs as mascots.

Odessa the Supreme Commander?
Hmm. What a thought. I've got some views on poverty, but that's for a
different message.

I thought black fur coats would be Quaker? In any case.... it's a gift I
have. Some cats, dogs, and babies. I've been told many times "Oh, so and so
doesn't like men" and then a couple minutes later we are friends.
I was two for t hree today with babies in church. Isaac was fine, and the
other one I can't rememer her name was fine. Nia (girl) hollered. But I'm
told she hollers for others, too.
Nice to meet Odessa. Maybe she'll be OK with me next time I'm over to visit?

Some folk just have the gift. Charlie is one of them. So do watch
yourself. I decided he was a keeper after watching how much small children
and small dogs loved him. My mother did get upset with us. We stayed with
my parents for two weeks before we moved to Alaska. In that time her dog
decided she was meant to be his dog. And mourned for him after we were
gone.

Rob has the gift with children under the age of three and most animals.
I often joke that I don't have to worry about the "other woman." I
have to worry about some baby taking him away.
I don't know about Mandy and babies, but she does seem to have
whispering capabilities with dogs and cats.
