She won't let it go!

I gave Persia an early holiday present.  A felt mousie with a velcro closure
tummy which I filled with what I was assured was freshly dried catnip.
She's never cared about catnip before; I can only gather the other stuff was
so stale as to not be worthy of attention.

She's acting like a dog!  She has slobbered all over it.  She hugs it,
carries it around, won't let me near it.  She's not pouncing all over the
place but I don't *dare* try to touch this mousie.  It's HER mousie.  It's
too funny!

She sounds so sweet.  We picked up a pot of fresh catnip at Petsmart
yesterday.  I don't think it was all that pungent as it was quite pale.  But
Jake buried his nose in it and started grazing like a goat.

I wish you'd taken a photo of that!  I've thought about growing catnip and
that "cat grass" they sell at PetCo.  But I don't want to encourage Persia
to eat live plants; the few I have left she hasn't knocked over and broken
I'd like to keep (no, they aren't poisonous to cats).

Awww, a new drug for Persia! :) I'm glad she likes her mousie.

I've noticed that my cats respond better to dried catnip than freshly
picked stuff. I grow it in pots on my porch, and I used to snap off
leaves, tear them up a bit, and feed them to the monsters. They liked
it, and they ate it, but it wasn't quite the result I was looking for.

Then I tried cutting back the plant and then binding the cuttings
together with an elastic, and hanging them outside to dry for a couple
of weeks. Then I'd crumble it, removing the dried sticks, and feed
*that* to the kitties. Voila! They licked it, rolled in it, raced around
maniacally, and did all the things you associate with a catnip-crazed
cat. So now I always dry it in bunches before I give it to them.

Question: How often do I change out the 'nip in this mousie?  The
replacement 'nip is in a sealed container.  Once every week or two?

You can't change it because she won't let it go!

Mine used to be in a sealed container. Then I left it accessable and
it seals no longer.

When she looses interest.  Then it will seem new to her again.

I would say change it when Persia's interest in it starts to wane.
Otherwise, why bother changing it?

There you go, now you've got her hooked. ;o) One of the many goodies
Waffles sent Frank was a packet of apparently very potent catnip. I gave
the cats some, and they went crazy, and I closed the bag (ziplock
plastic bag) and put it out of their reach, but I left out the carboard
package that was around the bag, and they go crazy over *that*. Each one
will occasionally go over and rub themselves all over the package.

ROFL!  I was afraid she'd scent it in the bag I brought it home in.  I
crumbled the bag up, stuffed it in a plastic bag and carried that bag out to
the trash can.  But then, of course, I couldn't wait to give her her
"present" so I had to fill the mousie's tummy and hold it out to her.  She
grabbed it like a dog after a meaty bone.  So much for my dainty kitty :)

This is exactly when happened when I managed to get hold of "the real
stuff."  I'd tried my two kitties with a catnip mouse plus a catnip spray
with no interest whatsoever.
So my friend, who has three cats, bought them some "good stuff" after I'd
told her that mine didn't seem to care about it.
Boyfriend went crazy about it.  It was in a little cotton pouch.  He didn't
know what to do first.  He rubbed himself on it, he threw it in the air and
caught it, he got hold of it in his mouth and slobbered all over it, until
it was absolutely soaking wet.

It's amazing the effect that good catnip has isn't it?

Tweed
P.S.  Kitty is immune to it.

That reminds me; I need to get some fresh catnip. Mine is getting
stale. You know, you really need to get some piccies of Persia and her
mousie!

I bought a teapot at a yard sale once and Nocturne freaked, insisting on
climbing onto the counter to rub it.  I wondered what had brought on this
unusual badness from our usually sedate Nocturne, until I opened the teapot
and found that the prior owner had left a bag of catnip inside.
