I love the editing! It's just too perfect. I also love how the grey
tabby is the definite troublemaker; the black&white kitty just wants to
be left alone! }:) Further proof that tabbies are troublemakers! (as if
my Lynxie weren't proof enough)

Seeing this video makes me wish I had originally gotten two cats; it
must be a riot when they do "battle" like this...

Alas, Lynxie won't accept anyone new now; it's way too late...

*Best martial arts video ever*!

I think the black and white also likes it.  He has more power, but the
tabby has the best moves, like the spinning roundhouse tail flick, and
upside-down crane stance with flattened ears.

Notice the tabby is much younger. I got tired out just watching all that
wrestling!! The dogs at the end are the best part. Completely befuddled.

BTW, Zorin, it is never too late.

Cat wrestling is the only sport I find entertaing. Like in the video,
Nikki, who is about half the size of Frank, always initiates the
fighting. I think she thinks that attack is the best defence. Here are
some 'action shots'.

Keep your digicam close and never be afraid to snap. The great thing about
digicams is that you can erase your failures at no cost. (Except I can't
bear to erase pics of my precious one.)

I do, but, sigh, the light is always bad and even though I put it on the
"sports" mode, I get a bunch of black blurs. It's not the camera, it's me.
It's a Canon A70. I just still have to figure out how to use it optimally.

It's not you - it's your cats! :) Black cats are extremely hard to
photograph. Stymies some of the best photographers *and* their fancy
equipment.

The trick to photographing black cats is to use available light, and
make sure there's enough of it. Flash makes black fur look like hell.

Not a domestic cat, but presented the same challenge:

http://zorin.org/vs/2004-10-23/imagepages/img_4595.jpg.html
http://zorin.org/vs/2004-10-16/imagepages/img_4468.jpg.html
http://zorin.org/vs/2004-10-10/imagepages/img_4345.jpg.html

Get him near a window, or other non-flash light source, and take a TON
of pictures. At least a few should come out good.

Those are the ones that turn out for me, but usually they aren't playing
wildly at the window :)

Ooooooo! Gorgeous! It's a giant Licky Boy!! :)

(I do tend to think of Licky as a "black cat" even though he's
really a tuxedo. But his face is mostly black and the white strip
down his belly is pretty narrow, so he's mostly black. When I see
a big black leopard like in these photos, it looks to me like
Licky writ large. :))

I like the middle one the best - that picture captured the most
expressive facial expression, one I'd expect to see on a house cat.

It looks like a black panther (black leopard) to me.  See

pictures will come up for you; all I could see was the text.

That is Misha, a melanistic amur leopard. It's a genetic variation that
results in dark fur. In fact, when the sun hits her, you can see spots!

Leopards can't purr normally, but she tries to. It sounds like a cross
between a purr and a growl. }:)

Thanks.

Speaking of feline noises, I visited the Nashville Zoo today, and was
surprised to hear one of the cougars meow.  It sounded like an
oversized housecat.  I didn't know that they could make that
particular sound.

Oh hell yes they do. Most of the cougars at the sanctuary I volunteer at
meow and chirp, and some of them do it with personality!

There's one particular cougar (a big one, over 200lbs) named Osceola who
will respond when you call out "Oscy!" to him. He "rowrs" back. It's
pretty cute and consistent, though sometimes he's too lazy to respond.

There's another one named Mystique, who is VERY vocal and "meows" all
the time when people are near. She also purrrs like a motor when you
give her attention.

I think cougars have the cutest vocalizations of all the wild cats.
Tigers are also high on the list with their "chuff", which sounds like a
mix between a grunt and a purr.

They meow? I didn't know that either. I know they purr. Geez, they
purr, they meow, they do upside-downy head, they roll on their back
and show their belly (now there's one belly I'd never *dare* to
touch!)... maybe they *are* oversized housecats.

I seem to remember that they're one of the few big cats that meow -
course I could be wrong

You got that right. Having a black cat, and used to have a black cat,
I found that if you get them to look away slightly from the camera it
helps with the big saucer glowing eyes. Light backgrounds tend to
wash everything out, and dark backgrounds hide the cat so its hard to
find that happy medium. Natural light works best with black cats, or
some backlight rather relying on the flash to light everything up.

I've got a Kodak and the stupid thing defaults to auto flash, which screws
up the color. The camera does a fine job in low light. The first thing I do
every time I power it up is turn the flash off so my colors will come out
right. Alas, I haven't found a way to make the setting stick across power
cycles.

It got more defined as she got older, and inspired her name. I was thinking
of the Joker's sidekick, Harley Quinn, and as she purred one afternoon it
also brought to mind the way a Harley Davidson sounds rumbling at the light
next to me.

She loves to sit on my lap while I play games, and I've learned to hold
very still even in the middle of a desperate firefight to keep from waking
her up. When a match ends and I wait for the next map to load, I reach down
to pet her and she insists on licking the palms of my hands.

Toooo cute!  I have 4 that do this now. Bonnie is playing with the
kittens now, so she rolls with them, Shamrock rolls with them, then
Shamrock chases Bonnie, then the kittens join the chase, then the
whole house sounds like a herd of buffalo.
