Ah, the joys of refereeing sibling rivalry. :-)
Cats do work these things out eventually [in my family, introductions
consisted of plopping the new arrival right into the course of family
life. Never had any significant injuries from the "sorting things out"
stage, either].

That's what I've always done in the past. This situation just goes to
prove what I already knew - all cats are not alike. The same things
don't work with all cats - or all kids, for that matter. Most likely,
if Nanki-Poo hadn't been sick, it would all be straightened out by now.

I wouldn't dare introduce another cat to Persia. She's the Queen of this
domain. She has knocked over my corner plant-stand, broken any number of
potted plants and their pots, crashed through the slider screen door... all
because she simply *saw* another cat on my patio. She's what they would
call at The House of Mews "Best in a single-cat household". <G>

Felix is a rather determined only cat himself. :-) [He co-exists fine
with Ava, and would probably be all right with a d*g.]

I used to think that about Marley (RB). He was with me as an only cat
for 4 years (he was a year old when he came to live with me) and he
was the same way that Persia is. I took in Shadow without knowing
anything about introducing cats back in '96, and just left them
together. Marley was a lot like Shamrock in that he would chase
Shadow relentlessly. I never even thought it was something to worry
about. Marley was my first cat of my own.

I also think that it depends on the cat that is being introduced.
I've seen Betty interact with other cats through the screen door.
Some of them, she growls at. I've even seen her lunge at one grey
tabby youngster! A few, she seems fairly friendly with, or at least
indifferent.
