Persia only dashed outside once. A friend of mine had sent me a package and
I'd only had Persia a month... I wasn't thinking. I opened the door to
retrieve the package and out she went! YIKES! Come back here, Persia! She
ran. Every time I got close, she'd dart off. I gather she thought it was a
bit of a game.
Two blocks away some guy opened his front door and let 2 dogs out (not on
leashes) just as I'd almost coaxed her to come to me. Lickety-split, she
was gone.
She was gone 24 hours and I was frantic. The sun had set that next night
and I'd been out back calling to her. I broke down in tears on the patio
swing, convinced she'd never come back. After all, it had only been her
"home" for a month. I went inside. Just a few minutes later I heard
"MEOW?" at the back door. Persia?! I opened the door and she came in. She
had leaves and twigs and some mud in her fur, like she'd slept under a bush.
And she was hungry. Oh my baby! Come here, let momma brush you! Hugs,
cuddles, brushes and many purrs and of course a bowl of food later, she was
happily esconced. She's never tried to get out again. But (poor thing) had
to suffer the indignation of being chipped after that, just in case.
She DOES let me know when she wants in her Kitty Walk. And the one time she
accidentally knocked open the slider screen in the bedroom at the bottom I
was surprised to find her scratching at the window, saying hey, I'm out
here! Would you please let me back IN? LOL
She doesn't like the outside anymore. But I guess I still have anxiety
dreams about losing my precious girl.

Oh, that sounds like a really scary, painful experience. Especially since
you *almost* had her, and then some guy lets out a couple of dogs, putting
her at risk for being permanently lost. You must have hated that guy!!
What a relief she came back!
