I am so excited! If things work out tomorrow, I'm getting a new truck. A
metallic blue Canyon. The salesman is a smart one. He sent me home with
it last night. You see I currently drive a GMC Typhoon. GMC made them
in 1992 and 1993 and only made about 4,000 each year so there are only a
limited number still on the road which makes them a collectable. So the
appraiser at the dealership didn't want to give me a trade-in figure
since he didn't know enough about the value. They are going to have an
antique/collectable appraiser take a look at it on Monday and then give
me an estimate when I return the Canyon. The Canyon (made by GMC) is a
small pick-up truck. Something small enough to drive each day but with a
truck bed that I can carry flowers and trees and mulch from the county
extension office. The one I want is a crew cab, with a back seat and
four doors. When I told DH what I wanted he asked, "Why do you insist
on four doors?" Well, duh! Its easier to put the cat carrier in the
back seat when you have a door rather than trying to maneuver around
bucket seats. (Well, its easier when one of the cats in the cat carrier
weighed 27 lbs when he had his teeth cleaned last week). Enough said,
DH didn't argue with my logic :)

Congratulations! You're right about the 4 doors; it's so much handier for
groceries, cat carriers and things. DH has a 4-door, but it's full size. I
don't drive it much, I it's so big and I tend to hit things. :-)

Um, my husband used to sell cars. Sending someone home with a new car ensures
that they will buy it. Most people don't want to give back a new car. The
collectable appraiser thing sounds a little odd. They always give wholesale
blue book for trade-ins minus any excess mileage. They never give you anything
above that for extras or low milege, especially in this market. I think they
will low-ball you on your trade in on Monday. Just be prepared for the
walk-away close. Tell them you didn't really like the new truck anyway, then
ask for your truck. They'll probably chase you down for a better deal. I dont'
see a Kelly Blue Book for your truck. http://www.kbb.com// They may look for an
older book.

Thanks Cheryl, I did manage to get down and sign all the paperwork and
get my truck. I'm very happy with it.

Congrats! I've been thinking about replacing my Chevy S10 (6 years
old, all paid off) and when I saw your post I had to have a look at
the Canyon. When things settle down at work and I'm comfortable
getting into debt again I'm going to check it out. I love the
colors, and the crew cab is what I want, too. Tell me, is the 5 cyl
new? I've never heard of 5 cyl, only 4, 6, 8.
BTW - I liked the blue, but I LOVE the cherry! It's more like
burgandy (at least on my computer it was)

Cheryl,
Despite the fact that I play with race cars, I don't know a lot about
engine size. Chevrolet/GMC's engine is a Vortec which DH felt was the
best of the engines. You probably know about the phenomenon of
auto/truck enthusiasts....you have the Chevy lovers and then you have
the Ford lovers, and never the two shall agree. I have to agree that the
red is pretty...the yellow was my absolute favorite, but its not readily
available.
