Upon awakening this morning I noticed that I seemed to have many
companions with me in bed.  Besides my husband there was the dog, the
cat, a squirrel, a penguin, a kangaroo, a pair of socks and a
calculator.  Sounds like the start of a dirty joke, doesn't it?  ;-)
Luckily the penguin, kangaroo, and squirrel were all stuffed and must
have been dragged into bed by the cat in the wee hours.  I'll admit that
the socks were mine that I must have taken off in the middle of the
night but wonder how the calculator got there?? One of those mysteries
that will never be solved, I'm sure!

The calculator was there so the cat could figure the BTUs of your bed?

Or else someone wanted the sum of all critters in the bed???

OOOOH, the cats are very good at people stacking, and they are their own
stacking material.  Just ask Rob.

ROFL! Nikki usually brings her little piggy into bed in the middle of
the night, meowling loudly. But only the piggy, no other stuffed toys.

Mojo has been known to bring his "catch of the day" in also meowling
loudly, once it was a medium size rat (and not dead either!)

It's interesting to see how nightime behviour of my three has changed
since moving up from Florida to Atlanta, in Florida I rarely had any
visitors at night, they spent most of their time outside because it was
nice and cool. Now, they seem to spend most of the night inside, woke up
one morning this week and Emily was on one side, Muddy was at the end of
the bed and Mojo was asleep on the bedside table. Of course there
presence when I wake up could have something to do with "feed me."

Stinky once put a (NOT dead)  mouse in bed with me.  Very uplifting.

Oh yeah.  It did.  Straight up and out.  I've told it before, but what
the hell.
I had just gone to bed, pretty tired, and almost immediately fell
asleep-- then was almost immediately awakened again by him going WHUMP
on the bed.  And meowing.  I reached down to scritch his head without
opening my eyes when I felt it.  A small, warm furry object, maybe
about two inches long.  I was confused-- then I felt the tiny scratch
of its tiny claws.  That's when I jerked straight up in the air.  I
still had no idea what it was, just that something that absolutely did
not belong there was in bed with me.
The tiny critter went flying to parts unknown, I slowly reconstructed
in my mind what must have happened-- and I took my pillow downstairs
and went to sleep on the sofa.  After my heart rate came down from
about 400.  :P   As usual, it was impossible to be angry with His
Serene Goofiness, because he was so obviously crestfallen. ;)

There's a pattern developing here. At Flippy's incomparable web site
there's an account of other mighty hunters bringing their prey to a
human's bed - in this case, Leslie MacDonald's.

Sounds like the time DH and I were awakened by some very unmistakable
noises to find Felix in "Snoopy playing vulture" pose, about to unload
a hairball onto DH's face. :-)

One summer out on the island, I stretched my leg in the middle of the
night and my bare foot hit something cold and wet. I snapped out of
sleep and jumped out of bed to investigate. It was half a vole. My foot
had hit the blood that had seeped into the sheet. :o/

Another time, I awoke to a dead vole dangling in my face, courtesy of
Frank. He couldn't understand why I wasn't happy to get breakfast in bed.

When I first read your post I thought, hey, someone just like me, though the
penguin did seem odd. Last night I slept with my husband, two cats on the bed,
a skunk under the bed. A squirrel joined is in the morning barking for food as
I forgot to leave her food by the cat door. No one was stuffed though my
husband did overeat last night.

LOL! Yes, you do lead an interesting life. So Patchy and Mimi get along
enough to sleep on the bed with you now?

Yes, but every once in a while Patchy pees on my pillow just to remind me that
he is the king. The skunk likes to empty the trash can in the bedroom and drag
the contents under the bed to sleep on.

The penguin I can handle.  It is the kangaroo that freaks me out.  All
of the other toys are usually laying on their backs but the kangaroo is
always standing up and looking right at me with his beady little eyes.

Oh, Nikki's piggy is scary that way, too. She leaves it around the
house, always standing on its feet, but when she brings it into bed, it
always lies on its back.

I rehabilitate wildlife for release back to the wild. The skunk is unreleasable
as he's a midget with constant boogers. Here he is with my cat Patchy
http://www.animaladvocates.us/images/areyoumymommy.jpg He runs free in the
house. The squirrel has no teeth so she lives in a nestbox I built in the
backyard. She comes in through the cat door if I forget to leave her food out
for her. Everyone gets along but every once in a while Patchy has to spank
someone or wave a sharp paw over their head and hiss.

Awww... what a cutie! Did you have the skunk des-scented (or whatever
the euphemism is)...??? If not, how do you cope with the smell?

He's not descented yet as he's too ill for the operation. He is a midget with
CRF and can't breath too well. He's never sprayed. They will only spray if they
feel their life is threatened.

I hope the skunk is descented :-). I once met a very friendly skunk in
a petting zoo, and squirrels are all over the place here in Sacramento
[had a rather interesting conversation with one out in front of my
building one day].

I need to figure out a better name for him. I never name the wild animals that
come in as I don't want to get attached. I end up calling them by their
ailment, "head injury boy" "girl with no ears" "paralyzed lady," hence his name
"boogers" because he's full of boogers all the time.

Oh, my word.  Poor Booger.  It seems like he's staying with you, so another
name should be high on the agenda.  At least you could call him Tiny or
Titch, Tiddler or something small like that.
We don't call them boogers here in UK.  It's bogies.  Ugh.
(my niece, Charlotte, then aged two, holding out her finger.  "Look at this
lovely big bogie, Auntie Tina.")  What to say?  Nice?  No.  She obviously
wanted me to admire it.

You know, if those hind legs were closer together, you could mistake
that for the back end of a longhaired cat.

Hmmm... that's a tough one since I've never slept with a d*g. Last night
it was in the low 40's and we had Basho, Issa, Luna, Fez, and Rufous in
