As Bonbon said, Bandit and Demi are never thrilled with visitors.  Bandit,
AKA "Bit*h Cat From Hell", because she just hates everybody and everything
and loves to grouse about what a terrible life she lives.  She has been
spoiled rotten ever since she barged into my house when she was six weeks
old, but that's just her personality - she always was and always will be
(for a long, long time I hope) just a mean old nasty curmudgeon and I love
her to pieces in spite of that.  Bandit growled, yowled, and hissed at
everyone who even got close to her much less tried to pet her.

Demi, however, is terrified of her own shadow, so visitors just send her
running under the bed.  Again, there is no reason for this behavior, she too
has been spoiled every since she came to live with us at 6 weeks of age (of
course the way she found us *was* quite harrowing).

Another post about how vocal cats are when being transported via their
carriers is what caused me to post this.

Demi, when you sneak up behind her to lift her up for some loving (the only
way you can get close to her is if she doesn't see you coming), will let out
a very, very tiny "eek"!  She sort of sounds like a rubber ducky does when
you squeeze it.  That's it - the only sound she ever makes - *unless* she is
in her carrier going to to TED.  Then she meows loudly the whole way there
and the whole way back.

Now you can imagine how terrifying this adventure must be for someone who is
even afraid of a tiny kitten who is one tenth her size (although in
retrospect she was correct in being afraid of Sammy - I should have paid
attention to her fears!!).  ;>

When she gets to TED's office she is so scared that she pees on whoever is
holding her (poor baby, she is normally so fastidiously clean that the
embarrassment of this must be horrific).

As Bonbon and Bridget can attest to, I had put Demi in the cats' bedroom
before company came so I could catch her (it's impossible to get her out
from underneath a king-sized bed) so the rpca-ers could see her before I
allowed her to go hide while my company visited.  [Demi is the most gorgeous
cat I've ever seen, but nobody else ever gets to see her!]  However, she was
waiting on the other side of the door and as soon as I opened it all anyone
saw was a white streak dashing past our legs.  DH managed to get her and
carry her back upstairs, but she was so terrified I made him let her go
before she peed on him.

Anyway, the sound of her little "eek" is just too cute for words and I
wanted to share that!

LOL!

I know how you feel - the same is true for Licky. Although he's not as
much a scaredy-cat as Demi, he does dive under the bed at the sound of
the doorbell. Sometimes, though, once company has been here for a while,
and especially if it's someone he's seen here a number of times, he will
venture out. Suddenly, you see this pretty black face with white whiskers
peeking around the door, and he'll step out gingerly. I love my guests
to see him, because he is so beautiful.

Poor Demi! She should be a haughty queen receiving admiration from all
who see her, instead of quivering in terror because a stranger is in the
room! How old is she? I'm wondering if this is just going to be her
personality for life, or if she might outgrow it as she gets older. Licky
is one-and-one-half years old, and he's a lot braver than he was when he
was a little kitten. But he's still pretty skittish.

No, this is just her personality - Demi is 6 years old and she has been this
way all 6 of those years!  ;>

Sounds adorable. Poor baby. It must be hard on her to be such a scaredy-cat.

Sammy IS one to be reckoned with.

She is a beaut!  Why is it that the one's you want to touch and pet so
badly are the one's who seem to welcome it the least?

Louie has a girly little meow when he's in a carrier.  They're full
"meow's" but they're so high pitched that one time the desk girl at
TED's looked up from her work and said "Gosh, Louie sounds like a
little girl cat".
