That Kira is one productive animal! Seems like it was only recently that
she had her last litter. I know it was a while ago, but probably feels
recently to *her*. :)

SOOOOO CUTE!!!!

She had her last litter on Valentine's Day. I hope my niece lets her
rest a while after this one. She doesn't seem very sure that she even
wants to get into the breeding business, so maybe Kira can retire after
this. We'll see. Of course, it's nice to have all that cuteness in the
family. :o)

The kittens are soooo adorable!

And judging by the contented sleepy expression on the mother's face, I
don't really think she minds having kittens, except for maybe the labor
part. }:)

I don't think labor is quite as... um, laborious for cats as it is for
humans.

At least they don't have to deal with the horrified father whose trying to
sound concerned but really would rather be pretty much anywhere else on the
planet :-)

Ha! Back in "my day", fathers were treated like germ-laden expendables whose
only purpose was to admit the mother and sign the paperwork, then get out of
the way.
I'm not sure I wouldn't prefer that. :-)

Well, if they consider pregnancy a joint project, suppose
THEY try giving birth!  (Anyone remember the TV series,
"Alien Nation", in which there was a segment that dealt with
just that?)

No, but Kira has to deal with my niece's other cat, Kasper. He hated the
other kittens, at least until they were big enough to play with. I don't
know how he is reacting to these kittens. I suppose I'll have to go see
the babies soon. Oh, the tough duties of an auntie. ;o)

Hmmmm...now, Mr. Clark is no longer equipped to be a father, but judging
by the way he adores two- and four-legged kittens, from grooming to
allowing them to nurse to riding him (4-legged only), I wonder what his
reaction might be around a cat birth?

It's fairly safe to assume he wouldn't become a nuisance with a video
camera. One wonders if he would meow advice on breathing...and if the
queen would respond SHUT UP.

My father had no choice when I was born, there was no one else arround
so he had to deliver me.

Oh my heavens..... keet-uns!!!  I'm trying to count and can't tell if
it's 4 or 5 kittens.  There are at least 4 tails, but it looks like
there might be another one hiding up by Kira's front legs.  What's the
total?

I think Russian Blue kittens always have tabby stripes when
newborn.

Russian Blues have stripes as kittens, but they are supposed to fade
away as they get older.

My sister used to have a Russian Blue (now RB).  In bright sunlight,
you could see faint rings on her tail.

I think that is true of most, if not all cats. Something about all cats
being tabbbies at a genetic level or something...

There is actually a "tabby-suppressing gene."  White cats have it.
Cat color genetics makes my head explode. ;)

Yes, I think the stripes remain faint on the tail their whole lives, but
the striped on their bodies fade away. Not that I really know a lot
about the breed, just what I remember from what my niece has told me.
I'm not that into breed features, as I prefer moggies any day. :o)

This is the same with black cats. Although, I canNOT see any kind of stripe
on Pearl, as she is an inky black, Grant especially, you can see telltale
tabby rings in bright sunlight, although he is a black cat. He and Sugar are
the brown black color.
