I rang Nick today to see if there was any news. He said she has been
spotted back at the bungalow where she normally lives, although he has not
seen her himself. I asked him who saw her, and could it have been another
cat perhaps, he said it was the next door neighbour who knows her well but
when he called her, she ran off into a neighbouring garden.
If it was indeed her, she is not going into the bungalow at all through the
cat flap as any food put down inside remains untouched. Food is now being
put down outside daily which disappears, but of course, like Nick says,
anything could be taking it, from other cats to foxes to hedgehogs.
Things are not going very well for her meowmie,Thelma, either. She'd been
transferred to a rehab hospital with a view to getting her up on her feet
and home again in a month. She deteriorated and had to be sent back to the
hospital she was in at first for further treatment. Nick says she has
become confused, so they are waiting for the results of a brain scan, they
suspect a mild stroke while she's been in hospital. Even worse, the op she
had on her leg to improve the circulation hasn't worked very well, and the
surgeons are tentatively suggested amputation as the worst of only two
options.
I'm just hoping against hope that it *was* Jess that the neighbour saw and
that she goes through the cat flap into her home soon. She can at least
wait there, going in and out as she chooses to, for her meowmie to come
home. The trouble is, I think if Thelma isn't there, it's stopped being her
home :-(

We are revving up big purrs for Jessie and Thelma. Can they put out a
cat trap for Jessie? I hope that Thelma has a turn for the better ASAP.

She's not going inside, that's the problem.

Mega healing purrs on the way for Thelma - I hope she gets well and gets
home again soon. Poor Jessie! Purr on the way for her too - I hope she's
really home again and will be there when Thelma gets home.
Thanks for the update, Tweed, I was just thinking about Jessie yesterday and
was going to ping you about it today.
Hugs,

I can hardly believe how things have deteriotated since I last visited
Thelma maybe 10-12 weeks ago. Her and her late husband were wonderful
neighbours for 20 years so I try and see her now and again. She did say
last time that she'd stopped driving recently as her leg seemed to go numb.
I told her to see the doctor about it and now she is facing amputation. I
feel as bad as my counsellor did when he told me the same and it proved to
be cancer.
I'd like to think that Jess has found her way back, but I am really not sure
if it's her or not. There are a lot of Holstein cats out there. My concern
would be that she would not go under the railway bridge to find her way
home, and why she isn't going in through the cat flap like she did until
Nick rehomed her.
Surely, if she found her home eventually, she would rush in via the cat
flap?

Yeah, that doesn't seem likely, but we can always hope - cats have done more
amazing things to find their way home.
Does Thelma know yet that Jessie's missing?

It really isn't that far, less than a mile. If that bridge was not there
that she would have to go under I would be fairly certain she would find her
way back.

No.

Aw, this is just heartbreaking! Purrs and purr-ayers coming across the pond
for a happy outcome even in the face of all evidence to the contrary.

We are sending lots and lots of purrs for Thelma and Jessie,
Polonca and Soncek

Granddaughter suggested he take a hand towel to the hospital and let her rub
her hands and face on it and put it by the cat flap and see if she will go
in thinking someone may be there, If you could fix the door so she stays in,
it might help. Leave it to a 13 year old to think of something.

Thelma does not know Jess is missing, so this would not work. Good idea if
she did though.
I did think about if Nick's wife could walk around the bungalow in Thelma's
shoes and then take one off and sort of hold it in her hand and "walk" it
through the cat flap to get the scent in there.
To be honest, Jess knows very well how to go in and out of her house. I'm
not convinced it was her that the neighbour saw, quite yet. Surely, if
she'd managed to find her way home at last, she'd have dived in through the
cat flap and eaten the food in the kitchen?
All food inside the house remains untouched.
I would be more confident she'd have got back if she didn't have to go under
the railway bridge to get home, I think she wouldn't go through it.
