Won't be Around so Issuing More Blanket Purrs

I'm going to be quite busy the next few days since John is due to arrive
around Noon for an extended weekend visit.  I've been busy already searching
out non-chain restaurants for us to go to (yes, I'll be doing some cooking,
too.)  I rarely go out to eat so I had to make sure some of the places are
still in business.  Alas, many are not.  Why a long-standing restaurant (30+
years) decides to suddenly move to a new location is beyond me; it never
works out.  But a few are still there!

We also hope to go to the zoo on Saturday.  It's a nice one, with "natural"
habitats.  So natural, in fact, you sometimes wonder is that a black panther
or just a shadow under a tree?  :D  But it's supposed to start raining this
afternoon, quite heavily tomorrow too, and rain off and on through Sunday.
So the zoo plans are iffy.

I don't free-feed Persia; couldn't afford to do that with her prescription
kibble anyway.  So I bought some Purina One Urinary Formula (which the vet
says is fine in a pinch) so I can leave out extra food for her to accomodate
my lack of being here most of the time.  I also feel a little guilty so I
picked up some Fancy Feast (what the heck, a couple of cans won't hurt) at
the dollar store @ 45 cents each.  She'll love that!  She only gets it a
couple of times a year now.

At any rate, blanket purrs to all who need them.

She'll be wanting you to do this more often! Isis (RB) used to love us going
out and leaving her and Fugazi overnight because we would put down a big bowl
of food- we think she probably stuffed her face and then slept it off until
we got back

One of my late cats once convinced a naive cat-sitter that she should be
fed Fancy Feast on a daily basis, instead of once in a while as a
special treat.

This was in addition to free-feeding the usual stuff, of course.

The winner was Fluff (RB)...convinced a naive cat sitter that he was hungry
every time the Hoomin went near the kitchen.

After 2 weeks when his slaves got back- he waddled up to them with his belly
dragging on the floor!

Muffin (MIA, RB) once convinced most of an apartment complex that he was
starving to death.  He had a burrito place, a lasagna place, a meat place, a
burrito place (complex office) and others we never found out about.  We'd
get  him home and have to put him back on his diet.  He weighed 28 lbs.
Needless to say, he decided that we were no fun anymore and ran off.  We saw
him months later on the balcony of another apartment.  I estimated  his
weight at well over 30 lbs by then.

I'll never understand people who feed cats (or dogs) people food like that.
Not the same as a fresh diet of meat & veggies... leftover people food.  I
got so ticked off one day when I came home and found a neighbor had come
over to visit my ex-husband and fed my little mutt Sampson (RB) hot dogs.
What was she thinking?!  She'd given this little 8 lb (at that time) dog
THREE of them.  She's very lucky he didn't barf them up on my carpet.

When I moved back into my parents house for a year after my divorce I found
out my mother would cook him scrambled eggs every morning after I left for
work.  She didn't even cook *me* scrambled eggs! LOL  No wonder he wouldn't
eat his Alpo anymore.  I had to scold her.  "But he likes them!"  Well of
course he does, but if you think when I move out I'm going to cook breakfast
for the dog every morning before I leave for work you're sadly mistaken (and
so is he).  So cut it out!

I left my d*g SnowBall (RB) with a loved and trusted friend once when
I went away for a week. Rita had never owned a d*g but she got along
well with SnowBall and so did her cats, Sam and Dave. I gave her
SnowBall's regular, dry, food and told her that she shouldn't give the
dog human food because she wouldn't know what human food was
appropriate. SnowBall was a plump forty-pounds when I left.

She gained four pounds!! That's like a human who weights 160 pounds
gaining sixteen pounds. Sam and Dave ate on a counter that SnowBall
couldn't reach, so she wasn't likely to get cat food. Rita said "I
TRIED not to give her people food when I was eating but she was too
CUTE." And Sam, for reasons of his own, would knock catfood on the
floor for her. SnowBall didn't like being on her subsequent diet but
she lost most of the weight back and lived a long time after that. She
was always fond of going to her Aunt Rita's, especially after that
week.

Years ago, my MIL had a cat that would jump on the kitchen table and drop
leftover chicken pieces down to out lab.  The first time it happened, I
couldn't figure out what happened to four pieces of chicken I left there to
cool, the cat didn't eat people food.  Finally Bob caught the cat doing it
and, let it happen again so he could take a picture!!  Heidi D*G just loved
that cat!
