I've never owned a pair, but I've read that they're really comfortable.

I can't imagine wearing plastic/rubberized shoes in the heat of summer would
be comfortable... easy on the feet, perhaps, but the sweat?!  Ugh.

Ummm, well, ummm I have 2 pairs and I have things the grandkids have bought
for me that snap in the little holes.  Betwen these and my Birks, I must
look like a dork but, since I can't really see my feet that well when
standing up, it never offends me.

Then I assume that they're very comfortable?

Pam S. who's thought about it and decided that tennis shoes and clogs would
have to do for now.
Granby - 22 May 2008 19:42 GMT
Yeah, they really are nice and if you look, you can find then in non
offending colors too.  Some smart a@@ emailed me to ask if I had gained that
much weight I couldn't see my feet.   No, they are too far away.  I can see
the color of shoes but not much detail.  Sometimes it might be a blessing to
be visually impaired!

Well, I'm fat enough that I can't see my feet.  So if that idiot wants to
email me, well go ahead.  I'm willing to list names and let others know what
a bum this person is.

Already done.  After Rob got done laughing, he said, I have to meet him
someday.  I told him not to hold his breath.  The idea of both of you two
getting together is terrifying.

Ack. You shoulda said similar to what I said when someone admired my large
computer screen with bolded font and my reader-whatnot-thingie at work,
saying "I'd rather like one of those"  sort of enviously, like they resented
my employer had spent the money on me.
To which I replied "Perhaps you'd like my visual impairment to go with it.."
I did not mind at all when he blushed as red as a beetroot and sneaked away
;-))

At one point in my life I wouldn't have said something like that but not
now.  I was trying to read a price tag on a dress the other day and a lady
said "My God are you blind or something"  I replied "or something"  ?She
just couldn't stop there she said "You should get someone to help you"  A
man walking by flipped the tag around, told me the price and then said to
the lady "Help her like you just did" and he moved on.  I really do like my
cats better than most people.

Our cats, even the rudest of them, are far better behaved and far more
civilized than a huge majority of the people I encounter every day. Much
more intelligent, too.

Yeah, I agree, if I could just teach them to read would be great!

Well, until someone figures how to teach ME to understand THEM, it doesn't
help much. But I do agree they are smarter than most think.  Right now mine
are not thrilled, the hummingbirds are back.

I am still at the point in my life where my visual impairment is quite new
to me, only since 2001, not like yourself.  My colleagues are "supposed" to
know about it so I consider it a personal crusade to make sure they do.
FGS, they are social workers, what hope is there if it doesn't enter their
minds about disability?
It's probably a bit my fault.  I beaver away on my adapted computer in the
corner of the room and they don't notic me using my reader.  My manager
asked me a few weeks ago to collect all the tiny computer numbers on our
machines in the team.  Yeah, like I could see them!  Even she forgot.

When that person said "are you blind or something" I would have said "yes, I
am actually"

I am not blind in the true sense of the word.  I have lost my visual acuity
which means  there is no "sharpness" I cannot read without a special reader
because of my 7 eye operations to restore my central vision. I have no night
vision at all.
I can still drive, providing I get home before dusk.
It imprisons me in the house during winter after 5 pm.
Granby - 23 May 2008 19:51 GMT
It is really a compliment when someone "forgets".  I have always wanted
people to see me not the visual impairment.  These people around me only see
the vision part and it is hard to show them I am a person who happens to be
severely visually impaired  NOT, a visually impaired person.  I feel
imprisoned most of the time as there are no cabs, or other transportation
around me.  If I ever get the chance. will move where there is.  My son
tries but, he has a family now so can't bother him more than necessary.
