I have often mentioned my friend Jim the gardener- he who took little
Molly when she had nowhere else to go and his senior cat  Benj adopted
her like father and daughter

Jim thought Benj was loosing a bit of weight so yesterday he took him
to the vet. And Benj who is 14 has liver cancer.

The vet doesn't think surgery will help- Jim has taken Benj home with
some medications that might give him a little more time but since
getting back from the vets Jim has noticed that Benj although eating
well and using his box is not enjoying hmself, he didn't get on the
bed to sleep and he's hiding from Molly who can't understand why her
"daddy" won't play with her

Jim says he thinks its time- so can we have purrs for Jim as he makes
the hardest decision of all and for Benj who whatever happens does not
have much time before he crosses the Bridge

Poor Benj and poor Jim, purrs for both of them and Molly.

Let him try milkthistle on Benj, not to heal him, but to give him a chance
at feeling better for a longer time.  It helps  the liver function and the
growth of new liver tissue, so as long as the new tissue can keep up with
the new cancercells the liver keeps working. One of my ferrets is still
alive after 18 months on milk thistle, she gained a lot of weight and is
playing again. When I first took her to the vet she was terribly skinny and
very tired.
He should get it from a health shop, and buy milk thistle withour further
additions (except for the alcohol that's in it).

A lot of the medications for arthritis are very hard on the liver.  And the
lovely doctors that treat it watch liver function numbers very closely.  If
they don't like the numbers, you are liable to get your medicine cut back,
or if your doctor is very cautious, have to have a liver biopsy.  Not fun.

So many of us rely of milk thistle to help our livers handle the stress
from the toxic treatments.

Its been around since at least the days of the Roman drinking orgies.

Many purrs for Benj, and more so for Jim.  Liver cancer is one of the worst,
for humans too, only pancreatic cancer is worse in terms of survival.  We
cannot live without our livers.
I lost my lurcher, Trim, to liver cancer aged 14.  I had to make that awful
decision for her, too.  My heart goes out to Jim.

Prayers for Jim.  He has a rough time ahead but as he loves his owner, he
will do the right thing.  Prayers for strength for all that lies ahead.

Purrs for Benji and for the friends he is going to be leaving. Purrs
for him to have life for as long as it is worth living and to go to
the Bridge with the least pain and fear managable.

There's been too much hardship lately.  So many of our babies are crossing
or sick.  You've got purrs coming from me & my clowder in Florida.

Purrs are on the way for Benj to a few good days, (for Jim's sake)
before he journeys to the Bridge.
