Matthew - 16 May 2008 00:26 GMT I get my a@@ kicked by a 13 year old girl than get my a@@ chewed out by a 63 old than get battle scars from 91 year old than spit on by a 79 year old lady than get clawed on by a 84. All while a senior citizen old fart laughs her tail off watching the whole thing
Got to be an easier way to trim nails other than paying some one it might be worth it next time. I used to own Kevlar gloves but got rid of them after the rescue day maybe time to invest in another set

I'm trying to stay out of this 'fighting' thing that's going on. You're a good friend to me Matthew.

When I clip outr cats, I use a pair of hoomin clippers, and they accept it. No gloves needed here, although I use gloves when I scoop the litter boxes. Hug Kyla

He grows and hisses sometimes bunny kicks but he lets me know who I am messing with and that he is not happy about being held down. He has yet to come near me since than he has been growling and hissing at me when I get to close

I have to be extremely careful with Ka'shay mutant claws the wick comes down all the way on one I have to trim it with a small human nail cutter instead of the trimmer I have
Granby - 16 May 2008 02:08 GMT In dogs I think it is 7 years to one, what is it in cats? Don't tell me to figure it out, I am math impaired.
I have to wrap my three in a towel, stick one paw out at a time and watch the teeth.

Thanks for the link Sherry. That means Mutt, who went to RB at age 19 in Cat years was 93 in human years. Hug Kyla

I cheat and use a 21 year old daughter who seems to be able to clip claws without getting injured. I'd loan her out, but I kinda need her around for the entertainment factor. Like Mark, she has been known to walk through the house with a line of cats following her.

In human years, he is 68 going to 72 next month. He is my grumpy old cat.

I've seen that, too - it FILES the nails, rather than clipping them. Sounds useful (assuming my cats would sit still for anyone messing with their claws in ANY way), but apparently it is one of those "not available in stores, available only by phone call to (800-number)". I just have a nasty, suspicious mind - who's to guarantee the company won't accept your order - and your money - then disappear?)

I guess anything can happen, but my sense is that those late-night TV ads for products "only shown on TV" aren't usually sold by fly-by-night companies that will take your money and disappear. My concern is more that the products, which look great in the ad, will end up being cheap junk once you've got it in your hands. And maybe it *does* do everything they claim, but only a few times before it breaks. So that's where my suspicious mind goes. (And thanks for the earworm, btw. :))
Actually, there is one store where these products are available - and that is a store that specifically sells stuff advertised on late-night tv. You won't find it at Target or Sears or Mallwart or any of the other department stores, but you can buy it at this place. Naturally, I can't remember the name of the place - helpful, eh? But there is one in the Bay Area and I've always meant to go there to check it out.

I didn't write about or refer to any new product advertised on TV.
I just use a good old regular human nail clipper to clip Rusty's claws. It is not always easy. Quite often it is a struggle to hold him still. But it works.

Did I say you did? Actually, I think I was responding to Kyla, who mentioned seeing a TV ad that sounded like the same gadget.

Sure it does - that's what the vet uses, too. However, the TV ad is correct in mentioning that clippers (even those designed for cats and/or dogs) do tend to split the claw-ends. True, you can use a nail file after the clipping, but that's assuming you have a cat patient enough not to be long gone as soon as you abandon your stranglehold long enough to put the clippers away. :-)

They're in the trunk of the car, "just in case".....but mine are so bulky they're useless for things like trimming claws. Can't offer you any advice on claw trimming, except my method which is "Catch them asleep and snip, snip, quick quick!" My method takes several days. :-)

We solved that by bringing her outside on the upstairs deck to give her a manicure. She is so over-awed by being in the scary "OUT" that she'll sit quietly in my lap while Ben clips her claws.

When we were loading it in the truck. I saw him streak off little devil. I jumped over fences ran thru the woods shirtless and barefoot. I chased him for almost a mile he ran thru the bottom of stockade fence that I ended up smashing thru to get to him where he ran under a fallen tree that in my charge chase I lifted off him and threw. I held him to my chest in a vice grip till I got home.
It cost me $70 to repair the fence and a night in the hospital while they made sure I got treated for ripped up feet and various other parts of my body with a dislocated shoulder and pinched nerve. Was it worth it absolutely. the neighbor saw the whole thing and was laughing her a@@ off watching me trying to keep up with this grey streak
