Matthew - 15 May 2008 21:18 GMT How did the brown recluse spider bite turn out. You disappeared and I just remember about it. Did everything turn out ok about it.
Pat - 16 May 2008 01:14 GMT | How did the brown recluse spider bite turn out. You disappeared and I just | remember about it. Did everything turn out ok about it. Hey Matthew! Thanks for asking.
As it turned out, there were three bites. I had no serious ill effects. As I learned later, very often nothing too bad happens from this kind of bite. Also, it was so strange, last winter I bumped into the woman who owns the website, http://www.brown-recluse.com/ - she lives in the same county as I do, and we met at a political gathering. We never talked about spiders except she made a point to identify herself as the "brown recluse lady".
I think my mind is going, because I ought to have talked with her about this subject! One day I will.... She still has some DVDs I lent her, so I will see her again, when she returns them.
Matthew - 16 May 2008 01:22 GMT That is good you are very lucky
AS you know tanada lost part of her back side to be polite. I hade a friend that they had to literally peel his skin off his leg to save it

When it was at the worst stage I could stick my finger into the hole in my leg all the way to the first joint. You could see bone. I didn't know what to do until I visited with an herbalist friend who gave me a potent blood purifier combo, then it cleared up in a matter of days.

If she had been she wouldn't have a chunk of her leg to show for it. I've seen spider bites like that. They are a common problem in the south and you don't just get over them, ho hum, everything is fine.

Granby - 16 May 2008 11:53 GMT Two of the people I know got bit on the finger and, lost the nail and part of the finger. These are usually horrible things.

"The physical reaction to a brown recluse spider bite depends on the amount of venom injected and an individual's sensitivity to it. Some people are unaffected by a bite, whereas others experience immediate or delayed effects as the venom kills the tissues (necrosis) at the site of the bite. Many brown recluse bites cause just a little red mark that heals without event. The vast majority of brown recluse bites heal without severe scarring"
- Ohio State University entomology factsheet
They also note that most people who think they've been bitten by a brown recluse have in fact been bitten by something more innocuous.
Be it misidentification or a mild reaction (i.e. the normal kind) it isn't worth throwing personal abuse at somebody for.

Regardless of my personal opinion of various people and their behaviors, there is one behavior I can't stand, and that's when groups gang up on one person. That dynamic often takes on a life of its own and becomes "mob mentality", which as we all know, can be very dangerous in real life. It's pretty unpleasant on the net, too, and I really wish people would stop doing it.

I really appreciate your voice of reason.

Cyberspace seems an odd place to try and build anything other than friendship. So Matthew, you are safe from this area. I bet I will hear from a dozen people who met on line and get slammed all over the place!!

I will take that second part if its every needed, Lee,

Long distance stuff seldom works, not that I have even tried that, but so "they" say. Friends is good.
